Halsey being an artist with multiple ones is hilarious considering she can't get a solo single into the Top 75
Oh yeah, oops!

If I'm right I think since Ben Haenow we've had Charlie Puth, OMI, Rachel Platten, Lost Frequencies, Sigala, Zayn, Lukas Graham, Harry Styles, Luis Fonsi and Lil Dicky all go to number one with their debut releases (or chart debuts, I'm aware Luis Fonsi's had a long career).

Rachel Platten, Lukas Graham and Lil Dicky were all definitely around for quite some time before their chart breakthroughs too. ZAYN and Harry are kind of cheating as well for obvious reasons (sure they're technically their debut singles as artists in their own right but they had plenty of hits before that).

Wow at Halsey now having 2 number ones to her name *.*

WTF? :o

It looks like YouTube video streams is more important in the UK charts now than Spotify audio streams. :drama:

Eastside is #1 on audio streams yet #5 on video streams....

Where's Calvin Smith on video streams?

In that line of thinking, Benny Blanco isn’t a stranger to the charts either

I'd forgotten I even had this thread open, and refreshed it expecting a predictable top 3. Can't recall being this surprised at a #1 reveal in a long time :o

I've really gotten into 'Eastside' lately so good for it. Though I'd probably prefer if it was just Halsey and Khalid; Benny Blanco is a bit offputting.

Would be interesting to know if the downweighting of free Spotify streams made the difference.

I just did a little calculation on this. If I took the audio streams at a ratio of 150:1, and the same for video streams, we'd have Eastside 59 copies (!) ahead of Promises, but 4k behind Shotgun :o and if I removed video streams and took it under the previous chart rules, Promises would be #1, with Eastside 2.5k behind at #2 and Shotgun another 2k behind

That's exactly what I thought! :P

If you removed video streams Promises would have been number 1.

So, not sure if I liked this inclusion of video streams in the UK chart. <_<

Just digested what happened - really happy for "Eastside", it's one of the best songs in the charts and has a vague indie kind of hint to it, deserved! Still pretty shocked though, especially having only loosely followed the charts this week, I just assumed Calvin had it in the bag! :o
