Omg where are my royalties
Omg.. I have NO idea what you're talking about..

Whilst that is true to a certain degree, WLM still underperformed. Before its release I would have expected a brand new Little Mix single to debut/climb to #1 and sell around the million mark tbh. 600k+ isn't bad though.

Hmmm I don’t know if I agree. It would be on around 730k by now with old ratio which wouldn’t have been much different to Shout Out. It held on much better than Shout Out on streaming and the only reason it didn’t climb to 2 is because Ariana literally released the biggest song of her career. Thank U Next would probably have provided massive competition for Shout Out too!

Shout Out To My Ex had sold just under 950k in May 2017, so a 200k+ difference using the old ratios. Perhaps I'm being a tad harsh on WLM then?! I still feel like it underperformed somewhat...

Going platinum is now an "under performance"? Reallyyyy? :/ I'm genuinely baffled by that statement.

When your previous lead singles achieve Double Platinum status, then yes, only achieving Platinum is an "underperformance" to a certain degree.

OMfG tHis

Tbh it's still down there with How Ya Doin and Word Up as one of their worst, so it going platinum actually is amazing

Nah, sorry I don't agree. Especially when SOTME (which I assume is the song you're referring back to) is A LOT more radio friendly and more appealing to casual listeners.

Reggaeton Lento didn't go to #1 despite being a brand new track that no one had owned before. But that's always been considered a smash, despite WLM making it to platinum in a similar time frame?! If anything RL should have done better chart position wise. They were at the VERY peak of their careers at that point.

Only You (as much as I love it) not being a huge hit definitely hit Woman Like Me more than it probably would've had they not released a single in between.

WLM is a smash. In fact, I'm surprised it hit 600k as soon as it did.

(P.s. I'm by NO MEANS saying that RL is an underperformance lmao. Just that I think RL being called a smash and WLM an underperformance despite a very similar time frame of certifications is rubbish)

I really think some of you aren’t taking on board the ratio changes. Like, NONE of the Q4 massive hits were high in the end of year charts last year because of this, when they usually are. Even Thank U Next was low!

Also it took Black Magic like 18 months to go Double Platinum! In the same time frame WLM will probably be like 900k to a million seller.

WLM was a big hit in general but it DID underperform as a Little Mix lead single.

Some of you are bringing up some ratio changes BUT are forgetting the fact that streaming is growing every year in the UK, and aswell in the rest of the world. So you simply cannot bring up the time BM and SOTME needed to reach Platinum, 1M or 2x Platinum since streaming is on a whole different level now (not just Spotify, for example Apple Music streaming was meaningless back then and look at it now).

I still think the song will have enough longevity to reach 1M or even 1.2M (2x platinum) sometimes next year seeing it's still pulling ~60k daily on Spotify alone.

It makes me laugh that despite releasing an album not too long ago and having a load of new features, Woman Like Me is still currently Nicki’s most popular song on Spotify.

(And a Cardi song is second  )

You must have ignored my post completely as I didn't even mention ratio changes. But tbf the fact they managed to go platinum on a smaller ratio, in the same sort of time frame as RL? Surely that shows it didn't under perform?

Great post BigMixer (if I could give you a like I would!).

I think you and Joe are missing the point. Compared to their previous lead singles (BM and SOTME) WLM did underperform. Yes, they're more radio friendly, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have done better. It failed to reach #1, and its highest weekly sale was only 42k I believe. Their previous lead singles easily cleared 100k+ in a week, and they were obviously massive #1 hits.

I'm not sure why you keep bringing RL up? It's not a 'proper' Little Mix single, and it shouldn't be compared like a lead single like BM, SOTME and WLM were.

It didn’t do as well as Shout Out, no but I don’t think they really ever expected that, I know I didn’t. When we were all doing our predictions the week before i don’t think anyone was saying they’d have a hit THAT big. That always felt like a once in a career moment for them, even at the time I was soaking it in because it was so massive. I just think that it not doing as well as Shout Out does not = underperforming. It was one of the biggest hits of Q4 which is probably exactly what they aimed for.

Now the album... that’s another story. That definitely under-performed.

Not doing as well as Shout Out ≠ underperformance

#2 peak, for 3 weeks

6 weeks Top 5

9 weeks in the Top 10 before hitting ACR (great longevity!)

Platinum selling

If it’d peaked at #7 or something and didn’t experience a recovery, I’d have considered that as an underperformance. #2 is great?

Ratio is an important factor to have brought up when considering WLM’s total sales. That puts it at a disadvantage compared to hits from earlier in the year, and in comparison to their Glory Days singles. Lady Gaga Shallow was huge and hasn’t made it to 900k yet!

I’m surprised Shallow isn’t 900k yet!? It had so many resurgences!
