Also, it's only down two places on Spotify (#102) but its streams have increased (71,361 from 69,775).
The article today in The Sun about Cheryl is pretty disgraceful.

This is just unfair in my view. She doesn't deserve this.

They really are gunning for her, I wonder why? :drama:

It seems Love Made Me Do It is in danger of falling out of the Top 40 tomorrow, so I suppose the press will have a field day over that. I have to admit though, I wasn't expecting such a muted response on iTunes following the performance. She's sold less than 3,000 downloads this week so far. 🙈

Wow this comeback has certainly fallen flat on its backside, I mean what the hell happened and WTF was she thinking with 'Love Made Me Do It', who in their right mind thought that this would be good enough to stage a comeback, its album filler at best and plus the 4 year wait didn't help matters. A lot has changed since then with streaming, downloads etc, and this just sounds totally out of place in todays music scene, it sounds about 5 years out of date with such awful cheap production and her voice doesn't sound good at all and it seems that the press are having a field day with this. To put it quite simply being in the public eye constantly with all her dramas and failed relationships have always overshadowed her music career.

Regarding that recent article in The Sun, where her singles and albums perform worse when she's not on X-Factor, and sorry to say the facts speak for themselves and each album has sold less and less, what did the last one sell 60,000, despite coming of the back of 2 chart toppers and the post album single didn't even chart on the top 100. She's losing popularity with each release and why nothing was done about this or even noticed before. Even her first album '3 Words' which despite terrible reviews still managed to a million copies, but none of the others have even sold half as much and that doesn't bode well her upcoming release. Unless she somehow manages a miracle and have a great 2nd single and turn things around (but doubt very much that will happen) and can see things getting worse.

Cheryl has had some fantastic singles 'Fight For This Love', 'Parachute' 'Promise This' & 'Call My Name', but there have been quite a few stinkers as well '3 Words', 'The Flood' & her latest one. She seems to be making the same mistakes Geri Halliwell did, letting her public persona take front seat and her music taking a back seat, because to be honest I don't find any of her solo albums all that great and doesn't give them a chance really normally only releasing 2 singles, then ending it abruptly before giving them a chance.

Her first album and era, I'd say yes they got things pretty right with 3 singles all becoming successful and if 'Stand Up' did get released as the 4th single, then that would have definitely been a hit and the album did already sell a Million copies by then and so it wasn't really needed. But 'Messy Little Raindrops' had a big lead single and the follow up kinda tanked, I totally understand why this was cut short as it was totally rushed and the finished product shows and doubt anything else from this would have been successful. Her third album 'A Million Lights' had so much potential and was a huge step up quality wise, 'CMN' was great and became a well deserved smash and yeah the 2nd only went to #13, but it still sold decent enough. I know the Girls Aloud reunion put all plans on hold, but come on talk about a waste, especially cancelling 'Screw You' (this was wasted opportunity) could have helped the album climb back up the charts and sell more, hell even if 'Ghetto Baby' which did have an actual video, could have done well and did show another side to the album but no they decided to give up again.

Then there's her last album 'Only Human', which only focused on the 2 lead singles and put no effort into promoting the title track and left it so long and don't think anyone knew this was released and its piss poor performance showed that and did nothing for album sales which was dead in water by then and ended things on a sour note. My point is that she should have put more thought and hard work into her albums and stopped relying on the wrong people (like Will.i.am) who butchers everything he touches as well as using X-Factor & Simon Cowell as crutches and concentrate on making better material and make more of effort to stand on her own two feet.

Sam is right though in so far as she does the absolute bare minimum where promoting her albums and singles comes into the equation. I made that very comment on here when 'Only Human' (the single) bombed back in 2015, and I said that only doing the one big performance and then nada act in this day and age would catch up with her.

Even so, and despite this single being for me the worst thing she has released solo, the backlash she has been on the receiving end of this week - including The Telegraph of all publications, who actually made a far worse jab at her then The Scum did - has been completely disproportionate. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, she has just released a bad single. She hasn't drowned a bag full of hamsters in the fountain at Trafalgar Square (although going on some people's reactions, you would think she had).

The sheer amount of thought pieces and tirades she's been on the receiving end of is only beaten by that which Justin Timberlake received at the start of the year when he released 'Man of the Woods'. That too didn't do much for me music wise, yet somehow every stick in the pile was suddenly being used to beat him with, and a focus on how 'woke' he was or wasn't. Get a grip, it's pop music for God's sake.

Cheryl will bounce back from this though, as she undoubtedly will, but if her new label's got any sense they'll wait until the new year until the storm has died down around all this before releasing any further new singles.

I mean, I dislike this song but the x factor performance wasn't that bad.

Yes the vocal wasn't great but everyone knows she isn't the greatest singer atleast she had the balls to sing live for once.

I don't think she deserves all the stick she's getting and this is coming from someone who isn't exactly a fan.

Anyway this is #47 this week in the official charts.

If I'm not mistaken, some people here seem to suggest that she could be more successful if a) she'd be willing to put more effort into her career and b) she'd come up with better songs. I disagree. In my experience, the quality of a song very rarely had an effect on its chart position (and it's subjective anyway), and no amount of promotion would return her to the position she was in 8-9 years ago.

A key component to success nowadays seems to be touring, which isn't her strong point, she toured for about 3 weeks during her entire solo career. She isn't the best singer live (to put it mildly), and doesn't have a very particular stage persona, so she needs the big production, which means a future tour would require a substantial investment. She doesn't have too much of a following outside the UK, so the number of places where she could do her own gig is quite limited, and I don't think she'd fit in well on any festival bill (Girls Aloud could get away with a few festival appearances because they were an indie band disguised as a pop act).

Of course, there's still the other way of being a celebrity constantly in the public eye, and releasing songs/albums from time to time on the back of her fame, but she's been there and done that already, and it probably wouldn't be very wise to go down that road again above 35 with a small child at home. I think she achieved the absolute maximum of what was within her reach - she took great advantage of her high profile relationship (and then marriage) with a well-known sportsman, her beauty and her fun personality at the time (meaning she didn't take herself too seriously and didn't mind ruffling some feathers every now and then). In fact she worked so hard that even in the year of almost dying from malaria and ending her first marriage, she managed to record and release an album and appear regularly on the biggest show on TV - she knew very well that she had to keep the momentum going, because it's not gonna last too long. I actually applaud her for making a more than a decade long successful career out of her limited skills, some luck and a very strong work ethic (I doubt she had much time off between 2002 and 2013), and it's understandable that she gives it another go if she has the opportunity, but I'm guessing another #1 single is no longer her biggest priority.

I just...think Cheryl’s career was a place in time. And outside of gay pop fans the GP just see her as Cheryl who had several break ups and marriages and used to be on X Factor. Something about this comeback felt very dated and I knew from the offset that no matter how strong the song was, she would struggle with streaming because her name has something quite ‘uncool’ attached to it now. It’s a shame the industry works like that and the way the press are coming for her is quite awful. But I am just not surprised in regards to the single, I really don’t see her ever getting another big hit.

Damn this really had no Graham Norton impact!

In all fairness, it's doing better on streaming than what I originally thought! It's still increasing on Spotify playlists, I don't think it will go top 40 again and I don't think Cheryl will release any new music if I'm being honest.

I thought Cheryl would struggle when she came back but not this badly. As much as I love her, her material has never been that strong but she still managed huge hits. I expected a Top 10 hit at least.

She will release more music, both Cheryl and her manager have spoken about it being a long game now in regards to streaming and admitted she has no streaming presence so will be taking it single by single to build it up. Cheryl has also said if the singles don't do well though then there will be no album and she will stop with music, but I think they will give it at least another single.

There is no way they will pass up promoting it on the new dance show she is doing next year with the BBC, I think it starts airing in January so she'll perform on there February/March time.
