The performance is getting such a backlash, mainly for her vocal or lack of as people are referring to.

Cheryl falls into the no win situation, in the past she has mimed and got a backlash (to a lesser extent)

She sings live and the same happens on a much greater level.

I applaud her for singing live with such a full on performance, but the performance highlighted far too much how vocally weak she is.

It doesn't matter what Cheryl does, she divides opinion and she for some reason many people have an extreme hatred of her.

 

I can understand if you don't like her, find her void of talent etc but I don't understand the level of vitriol aimed at her.

Also this is now the number 1 trending video on Youtube.

 

I just watched the performance performance, was thinking "this isn't quite as bad as I expected, considering what people have been saying"... then came then second verse, and I started cackling.

What on earth was with her licking her hand? I really don't get the lazy "dancing" as well...

Hoping the performance is enough to secure her another week in the Top 40, they really need to try and improve her spotify performance, get her higher on Hot Hits etc.

I thought it was ok and I'm not a huge Cheryl fan by any means.

Cheryl like so many others have streaming working against them.

These artists are now reliant on album success and tours.

Cheryl unfortunately in the past always relied on the success of singles and those days are gone.

I don't think it was as bad as people are saying, she's certainly had worse vocal performances, however the song is so minimal in production that the vocals have to be strong, otherwise vocals that aren't up to scratch are going to really stand out. I also thought the performing itself could have been better too. I think the various dance breaks in Cheryl's performances have been exhausted now; they've been a part of her performances ever since she first went solo and seem to be the be all and end all. They were great at first but 10 years later it's not enough to make a performance. All of this just made the performance tired and empty, which is a shame as the song is a bit of a bop, but it's a song that needs everything that supports it to be firing on all cylinders.

 

I think some of the comments have been grossly unfair though. The usual sexist and ageist crap.

Her performance was brilliant I thought. People moan when she mimes and moan when she sings live, she really can't win. The choreo was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I’m really not getting the hate for the peformance AT ALL and i’m not even a big Cheryl fan .

The vocals were absolutely abysmal, would rather she mimed and it sounded ok to be honest :lol: There was nothing particularly wrong with the actual performance as a whole.

I don't even think the vocals were that bad, yes she had that really dodgy note near the start but after that it was alright for a pop star performance with choreography.

 

I have heard much worse live vocal performances on X Factor which never attracted that much hate or attention.

Cheryl’s vocals are hardly amazing even on recordings. She didn’t sound far off! There are far worse vocal performances from “credible” artists. I’m not surprised people have leaped at the chance to criticise her though. They’ve done it all her career.
