A really solid entry, better than anything they’ve sent since Heroes for me. And probably a safe top ten at Eurovision?
Oh I really like this! Love the staging as well. Love the backing singers being every bit a part of that performance too. Into my top 10 easily.
Given it could have been Bishara, a solid song like Too Late For Love is just fine tbh and I shan't complain, Lisa NINTH though?! :drama: ANd poor Wiktoria sixth.
Very happy with the outcome. Too Late For Love winning by an empathic margin perhaps highlights how piss poor MF was this year, but still, great stuff and jury cat nip come May. Not sure if it’s impactful enough to get the televote?
Such a good song and can definitely do well. How the hell Ashes To Ashes has been slept on by the Swedish population is beyond me. At least we got this over Bishara of all people.

“Too Late For Love” is a catchy, well-produced song but there were seven or eight songs in the final alone (plus “Diva to Diva” which is better than any Melfest 2019 entry) that I get more enjoyment from. I really don’t get what makes it special enough to top each international jury vote.

Hopefully another underwhelming televote result is on the way for Sweden

Was hoping for a Lina/Arvingarna (knew it was never gonna happen) or Anna victory.

Can’t believe the juries screwed her so much(was christer worried as she was getting a lot of hype?). Only me that found the jury results a bit suspicious??

Like the JL song so not too unhappy.

Had to laugh at the British jury again being so left field. 10 to The man band and 8 to JHF(who I also loved but the other juries ignored completely).

Finally Diva to a diva is a total bop

Just realised this was the third time in a row (and the fourth time this decade) that the winner has been a returning male who reached the final with their debut entry the previous year.

We may as well hand Bishara next year’s trophy now :drama:

what year do we think a woman will win melfest?

idk what ppl’s expectations are but this is such post-spotify boredom fluff; that kygo album track reference is spot on!

i’m frightened; sweden is always ahead of music, but on the basis of anything from the past few years i’m FRIGHTENED...dull, no edge or joy. i hope eurovision doesn’t catch on; life is bad enough as it is

With you, it seems like that even if we take the whole decade into account then the only women who can win are those with exceptional songs or backstories and the last one of those was Sanna, 5 years ago. Otherwise it defaults to whoever the male pop artist of choice is.

Admittedly Too Late For Love is more my sort of thing than the normal fare, exactly because it's the kygo album track sound I tend to like anyway, that makes what would be a dull song interesting enough to enjoy in the background. So I like the song, I just don't like the background, Sweden's past form, how it's barely differentiating from the past entries in practice, how it has zero edge, or any of the other factors that make me want to see a song succeed.

I would argue though, for all that most of the female songs were amongst my favourite (shock!) that there was very little this year that had "edge" or "joy" in it, regardless of gender. John's song probably IS one of the most joyous, I'm not sure what that says.

Detailed breakdown of the votes are out

Rebecka would've gone direkt and pushed Lina to AC under the old system, but that's the only change with the qualifiers.

Bishara got more total votes in heat 4 than John Lundvik.

There's a little note as to why Oscar came 7th and Jan came 6th but even after translating it I'm confused by the explanation. They tied for points and Oscar is shown as having more overall votes so idgi

My only assumption @ Oscar/Jan is that Jan came 4th with the 75+ category and Oscar didn't come above 6th with any age group?

Yay for this system then. Like Rebecka, Lina would not have made it through Andra Chansen...

Very interesting to see the age breakdowns!

Thanks Rob, that makes sense and I guess is a fair enough way of breaking a tie as well.

Pretty damning for Oscar when even the 3-9 year olds preferred Andreas Johnson
