I have to agree with you, Ava Max or Mark Ronson/Miley Cyrus will probably be the first new #1 of 2019, I'm swaying towards the latter for some reason, not sure how well they do after they perform on Graham Norton tonight.

 

Yeh those sales this week for Ariana were a huge boost following the video, similar to Perfect last year for me.

Ariana had a big boost at the start of the week on all platforms from the video and now that is dying down. She is still a big favourite but depends how much she falls this week and if Ronson/Miley keeps growing, it could be tight next week.

She's not stopping other people from being successful, they'll just have to work harder if they want to out-do. Because Streaming plays a MAJOR factor now she'll be instantly added to all major playlists and radio will instantly play the tracks.

 

I think it is selfish, I much preferred way back in the day when artists would release the next single a 4/5 weeks after the impact date.

 

I don't understand why you'd release a single when the current one is already number 1 and had the biggest streaming figures last week.

I don't think its a single though, As far as everyone is aware its just a promo track for the upcoming album.

Ari said on twitter a few weeks ago she wants people to hear "Imagine" next nothing about it being a single so at moment I think everything points at it being a promo track.

I have seen across the internet that "Needy" is meant to be official second single.

And for the record I agree that it's smart. Good on Ariana for capitalising on her success just like good on Ed for doing the same thing last year. You're only at the top for so long.

Only three of us have commented so far tbf so doesn't really compare to "everyone" from last year. :P I personally found the Perfect situation hilarious more than anything else because the different versions seemed like they were selected at random.
