Parklife Review

***** Classic

**** Excellent

*** Good

** Average

* Pants

Girls And Boys *****

The Quintessential Blur song. If there is one song that epitomises the 90s, this is it. This was Blurs biggest hit at the time, and was unusual at the time as it entered straight in the chart at its peak of 5. An ode to 18-30 holidays in the sun, this is a classic.

Tracy Jacks ****

The story of a mid-life crisis, a mix of Arthur Dent from Hitchikers and Reggie Perrin! I've always had a soft spot for this track, although I know its not a fan favourite.

End Of A Century ****

One of the first Blur songs that I fell in love with. Its pretty much a song about nothing much in particular, but its moves along nicely!

Parklife ****

The one with Kevin from Eastenders.

Bank Holiday ***

Aah, the British tradition of a Bank Holiday. That would make a good theme for a song....aha! I didn't like this song for years, as I thought it was too rocky. However, like a good wine, it has matured well over the years.

Badhead *****

This has the honour of being my favourite Blur song of all time. Why? well, this is a beautifully contructed melody about the perils of a hangover. The highlight of the album for me and one of the fist songs I could sing to properly. I have alot of happy memories attached to this song,

The Debt Collector ****

Ooom pa paaah! An acordian themed instrumental, this is a well constructed little tune. Why is it called the debt collector? Who knows!

Far Out ****

A collection of celestial bodies makes up the lyrics to this short, if excellent tune. The reference of Wolf-359 was taken from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'The Best Of Both Worlds'.

To The End *****

Absolutely beautiful song, very 1940s and French Art House. In a word, stunning.

London Loves **

And so starts what I consider the second half of the album, London Loves is nothing to special really.

Trouble In The Message Centre ***

I have really got this song, but the sound harks back to their 'For Tomorrow' era, which is no bad thing.

Clover Over Dover **

A pleasant little ditty about English life and potential suicide, managing to rhyme Dover with Over and Clover.

Magic America ***

The start of Blur's later obession with the US of A. This is the tale of a holidaying Englishman, who thinks (mistakenly) that America is the bees knees.

Jubilee ****

Jubilee is a sulky teenager, who just cant be bothered to do anything, as he is playing on his computer all day. Sums up most teengae boys nicely!

This is a Low *****

Widely considered a classic Blur song, and I totally agree. This downbeat tune has my favourite Blur lyric ever - 'And the Queen, she's gone round the bend/jumped off Land's End'.

Lot 105 **

A cockney knees up to a Hammond Organ. Hmmm.
