I think this will forever always feel like a lesser hit than it actually was/is. It's sold monster numbers but has never felt big because it's not been on radios or pushed fully + in the shadow of Shallow.

Which is annoying because this is a much better song than Shallow tbh...not sure if that's a controversial opinion or not

This has just been performed by a contestant on The Voice Kids (UK version).

It was the last performance so only Mel C would actually turn around (but she did) hopefully we see a nice boost (and then another one after the film premiere)

This is great news, with Christmas songs free-falling, ARUTW has a real chance of re-entering the U.K. top 100.

You are right it's the superior song!

One of the biggest mistakes of her career was not making this song an official single, it has bigger numbers than many official singles.
It is been discussed here many times: it was a single and reached airplay charts in several countries. Was even playlisted by BBC R2. What more she could've done? US pop radio didn't even play Shallow that much, why would've they played this?

Such a missed opportunity definitely. Perfect song!

ARUTW was a France-Italy-only single, where it went Diamond and Platinum, respectively, which shows its effortless success where it was released on radio. Being playlisted by the BBC doesn't mean anything.

And what kind of petty mentality is that? Paula Abdul's debut single didn't even make the Hot 100 and that didn't stop her, she persisted and got 4 consecutive #1 hits and another top 3 single with her debut album.

The first single from Gwen Stefani's debut album only reached #47 on the Hot 100 but she didn't give up the fight and it paid off: the next 4 singles from the album reached the Top 20 on the Hot 100, including two Top 10 hits, one of them being a #1 hit (first song to reach 1M downloads in US).

Just Dance only hit #1 after FIVE months within the Hot 100 and NINE months after its digital release. If Gaga had listened to biased advice like yours back then, she would never have released Poker Face, she would have missed the biggest hit of her career and worst of all, she would have given up on her career before it even started but thank God she didn't hear negative things like that.

Imagine if all these artists had given up at the first hurdle? Pop would definitely not be the same. I could give you many, many other examples of eras that didn't blow up immediately. Music industry is about struggle, resilience and persistence. The only losers are those who don't even try!

I really think this could have been a 'Someone Like You' moment for her if she'd done a big high-profile performance of it at an awards show or something.
