Will be interesting to see how he holds up or whether he begins falling like a stone now!
Yep, the final was two days ago. It was also over this time last year too (final: Sunday 3rd December 2017).
Never been keen on James musically, characteristically or facially, but how he went from being semi-disgraced to turning it around deserves credit. He really was an arse in 2013/14 though.

It will always completely and utterly baffle me how it happened though.

I can only assume he had an exceptionally good team around him and they had a strong word with him. That and the fact he came back with a Ed Sheeran style song which really clicked with the public.

13. James Arthur - Empty Inside

Looking likely he's going to have three songs in the top 10 soon.

38. Paloma Faith - Silent Night (feat. The Thank You Midwife Choir)

51. West End Does - Where Are You Christmas? (feat. Carrie Hope Fletcher)

105. John Gibbons & Franklin - A Spaceman Came Travelling (feat. Nina Nesbitt)

Empty Space is probably the best song he's released so far but his voice still gets on my nerves in it- especially the chorus

Rewrite The Stars cover is unforgivable though. I really want to like Anne-Marie as well, but almost everything she's done this year is terrible :(

Empty space is ok

but his cover of Rewrite the stars with Anne Marie is terrible to say the least

I've only heard the liver version of Power of Love and James Arthur was terrible too, overhanging and shouting all the way

Does John Gibbons have any original songs?
he actually does! but none of them did anything chart wise.
