And 'I Miss You' wasn't????

"I Miss You" had a more defined song structure and a fair bit more in terms of orchestration and instrumentation, also I'd say its 'drop' was more substantial and catchy that "Baby"'s is. On top of that I'd argue Julia's vocals have a much smoother and more palatable sound than Marina's.

I like I Miss You and Baby, and I get what you’re saying about Marina’s vocals being divisive, but let’s not pretend that Julia’s vocals aren’t nails down a chalkboard on occasion.

That is true, but I'd say overall Julia's vocals are more suited to radio and the average music consumer so that's probably a contributing factor to why "Baby" is doing so much worse than "I Miss You" so far.

I suppose also with 'I Miss You' being lowest common denominator Spotify-aimed tropical-lite gutter trash, it's natural they'd eat it up and push it as hard as possible.

Yeah, however "Baby" isn't much less generic.

I feel like this doesn't give I Miss You much credit though. It's still distinctively Clean Bandit and way more than "lowest common denominator".

This feels a bit extreme compared to examples of soulless songs which really are Spotify bait. ALL of Clean Bandit's singles are Spotify-trend-chasing I would say. I think you're a little harsh on what this song is because you don't like it personally(which is fine, obviously).

I'm not quite sure I'd say "all", but I agree in the second era they've definitely transgressed more into that territory.

I get that you dislike 'I Miss You' but for me it's one of the best things Clean Bandit have released, easily my second favourite track by them and I think the track in whole deserves the recognition and chart performance it had. Everything is stunning about it, the vocals, the production and the lyrics. I would have said 'Baby' is far more Spotify trend than 'I Miss You' ever was.

The thing about I Miss You, is that even though it has some slight tropical influences (though not as in our face as many songs this year), it manages to have a clear sentiment and personality, whereas a lot of these songs don't manage that at all. I think the way it builds up is really unique.

I think my main source of ire about this (more than just my opinion on 'I Miss You') is that 'Baby' seemed to get a mostly universal positive reception when it was first released and people are now speaking negatively of it simply because it's not performing as well on here/not placed high enough on the key playlist and it strikes me as a bit of sheep mentality.

(Plus I desperately want this to be an opportunity for Marina to be re-launched and I feel like Spotify are sabotaging that at this present time, so on that level I am admittedly a bit bitter too).

ALL of Clean Bandit's singles are Spotify-trend-chasing I would say.

'Mozart's House' though? x (I can see an argument for all their other hits after that though, Clean Bandit aren't as unique as some people make them out to be especially with this second album).

I've always had a big soft spot for 'I Miss You' even despite how ordinary a song it is, it's held up as one of their best songs for me.
