Radio seems to be hammering the recent band aid but spotify listeners prefer the original :P
Really? I've heard original Band Aid a fair bit on R1 & R2 this year but haven't heard Band Aid 30 on the radio since 2014.

Maybe its just the station in the pubs i keep going in

The question is that if Mariah does reach number 1 this week then will this pile a lot of pressure on the OCC to remove the old Xmas songs entirely from the chart in future years?
If it does it will be another ridiculous rule change for me!
I legit do not see a rule change happening at all. If OCC were so adverse to Xmas tracks they would’ve been banned in 2007 when downloads of any track became eligible. Mariah got to number 4 that year and it’s featured every year since; I don’t quite see what’s so different now with streaming to enforce a rule change :’)

I think once OCC see the singles chart awashed with Xmas tracks, I wouldn't be surprised this time next year, they think of something to avoid it from happening again. To be honest I don't mind a few xmas tracks in the chart, its when most of them drop like a lead balloon the following week, and the old music climbing back up the chart.

But with downloads the OCC knew on Xmas week there'd be maybe 6-8 tracks that sold enough to chart in the top 40 whereas now there's a lot more albeit in years when Xmas falls between two weeks it'll have less of an effect. Also Mariah and The Pogues used to sell 30k max on Xmas week whereas streaming is so dominant now that the huge listening figures convert into double that for Mariah!

The OCC said they changed the rule this year because 23 Christmas songs in the top 40 was too many for their liking. Seeing as we may well get (close to) that many this year, it is possible that OCC may do another rule change. Can't see them banning Christmas songs outright but a ratio change may happen.
So it's now or never perhaps for All I Want For Christmas to be no1 then your saying?

Yes, I've said that a few times!

Yes, I've said that a few times!

 I know, I was kinda joking!

I can definitely see them amending the ACR streaming ratio for ‘archive’ songs.

Doubt they will ever block them from charting as some have mentioned. Whole point of ACR is to stop songs cluttering the top 40 for weeks on end, not to prevent number ones etc entirely. Things like 3 Lions going number one are big stories for the OCC so they aren’t going to do anything that makes it impossible for campaign or archive songs to do well when they are massively popular.

Almost 1.2M for Mimi!

Post Malone debuts at 24, the highest non Christmassy song in the chart.

My update will come tomorrow as today is Christmas, for now please use the links in the OP.

so Mariah roughly did 4 times more than Ava, which translates in double streams when taking into account ACR

surprised Brenda Lee is #3 above Pogues and Band Aid

very good entry for Posty with 400K and #1 non-Xmas track above Ari and Ava

1 Mariah 1188K

2 Wham 1129K

3 Brenda Lee 916K

24 NEW Post Malone-Wow 405K

26 Thank u next 396K

30 Ava 362k

wonder how high can Mariah go x Christmas Day, since todays figures are much higher than last year (although the 24th was a Sunday last year)

24th 2017

1 Wham 910K

2 Mariah 892 K

25h 2017

1 Wham 1357K

2 Marian 1299K

maybe over 1,5 million for Mariah tomorrow then?
