Meanwhile here's The Daily Mail's Quentin Letts showing either his gross stupidity or treating his followers as morons, by tweeting this:

Just skied from the EU into independent Switzerland. Quite disgracefully, there was no hard border. Not even a line in the snow.

Switzerland is part of the Schengen area, and has freedom of movement with the EU.

So, let's have a vote: is he as dumb as he appears or is he cynically lying and trying to manipulate the opinion of people who are badly informed (ie his twitter followers)?

Quitters keep using Switzerland as an example. It doesn't matter how often others point out that it is part of the Schengen area, they still keep on about it.

Or how about Britains' wealthiest man leaving the UK as we head into Brexit, having campaigned for it:

"Britain's richest man - Brexiter Jim Ratcliffe - loves Britain so much that he's leaving it to live in Monte Carlo - ever get the feeling you've been had Britain?"

So, another quiz: is he a hypocrite to say one thing and do another, having achieved his goal leaving everyone else to deal with the fall-out while he gets even richer, or is he just not admitting he made a huge mistake or lied?

I would love to have the right to move to Spain that I currently have, at some time in the future, but of course I'm not a multi-billionaire.

Feel free to post examples of Remainers moving to tax havens though, just to be fair and balanced.

Feel compelled to chip in on that one to say that he's being advised on PwC about his tax affairs and according to the paper that broke the story, PwC think it's SUCH a bad idea that the board is meeting to assess if the contract needs to be terminated.

When a big 4 firm thinks your tax avoidance plan is toxic AF it's time to do some serious soul searching

Have you thought it might just be to do with him being a tax exile, rather than Brexit-related?

Same thing to me. If you believe in paying taxes to support your country you stay in your country and argue the case. If you intend leaving the country in a strop to avoid British taxes then you can't expect to get publicly involved in political decisions without getting flak. That also applies to French-dwelling billionaires and USA-dwelling billionaires who get totally shitty at foreigners who make the slightest comment on British affairs and use them as ogre-figures to ramp up anti-foreigner feeling and swell their own interests.

He campaigned to leave and, now that he's got what he wanted, he's buggering off. Whether the referendum result is a factor in his decision or not, it makes him look like a grade 1 hypocrite.

Though that could be said of just about any tax exile.

It really makes my blood boil that someone is happy enough to *earn* money in the UK, yet too stingy to pay the full tax they owe on it

Honda are closing their Swindon factory with the loss of all jobs

Do we actually know the reason why, or is it just idle speculation?

What would you guess they are going to say?

They could still export to the EU after BRexit...

They could still export to the EU after BRexit...

They have no idea what they are going to be able to do, because nobody knows. There could be huge taxes imposed for all they know.

Japan now can export direct to the EU without tariffs. Nobody can honestly say what tariffs would be due on cars imported into the EU from the UK on March 30th. Given 90% of the factories output is shipped to the EU and the EU tariff is 10% that’s 10% on the value of 90% of their 150,000 car output

If we say that the average Honda Civic is worth £20k (it’s higher but this is a nicer number) that’s £2k in tariffs per car. That’s more than the average profit margin for a car in that sector. Thus they’d make a loss on 90% of the cars made by Swindon. For a company the size of Honda who has spare capacity in its supply chain in Japan it’s a no f***ing brainer.

Only reason they would even consider this is because of Brexit. Without tariffs the operation is profitable

That’s a gross over simplification of the Brexit reality for Honda.

Honda claim it's due to changes in the world market. Perhaps it's these specific changes they mean ahead of actual brexit:

Things now cost more to build, people have less earning power in the UK compared to the Eurozone and the USA. It's officially self-inflicted.

You can argue exports are cheaper - if they are grown here and don't rely on material from abroad, which Honda does. Of course if they are consolidating production outside the Eurozone then they are really are not being influenced by Brexit. If they are increasing production to their parts suppliers in Belgium (are they closing them too?) then it's a lie and is certainly NOT consistent with previous comments:

Lastly, the delayed statement was due to first consulting with Theresa May, so I'm guessing hmmm PR damage-limitation.

Project Fear thought, right?

Was always going to happen - but people STILL want a No Deal for some stupid reason. Loads of businesses are going to do the same, purely because of the uncertainty. At least we’re beginning to see more backbone from MPs, I feel confident that a No Deal will be avoided but we are causing so much mess.

But Remainers are going to claim that *absolutely ANYTHING* that goes wrong in the next few years is due to Brexit, regardless... :drama:
