They haven't had a top 75 studio album since 1993 and their last top 40 was 1987, I hope they can change at least 1 of these with this album. Was really surprised pop life didnt do way better than it did at the time.

To be honest I'm really surprised that all their albums were not more successful. Only one of their studio albums actually went Gold and they only have 2 top 10 albums (only 4 top 40's out of 25+ album releases...).

Bananarama have so many big top 10 hits that are 80's classics, they really are one of those memorable 80's bands you would expect their albums to have been alot more successful. They do claim to have been the biggest selling girlband of all time before Spice Girls came along though, so I guess they sold more outside of the UK.

I would love to know their total UK album sales as I would think girls aloud sold more and as we know the spice girls are in league of their own, but bananarama had American success that groups such as girls aloud never managed, I always feel bananarama should have a few big selling albums and its such a surprise they dont.

Well, they were a singles act, hence their greatest hits album being mega-successful. Plus they were releasing at a time when singles were actually profitable which is why they were able to release six albums with London Records before being dropped.

Also worth noting that pre-1989, single certification levels were higher than today (Silver 250k, Gold 500k, Platinum 1m).

Ya the greatest hits was big for them and rightly so,with so many great singles it's a shame they never had a uk number 1 although many of their big hits feel like number 1s.
I'm kind of excited for the midweeks to come out to see where the album is.

I just hope it's high enough to at least end in the top 40 on Friday (Viva started out in the top 40, but plunged to #88 before the week was done...)

Quite a decent album on first listen. I'm On Fire, Tonight and Stuff Like That are all really good melodically, the latter is a real throwback sound.

#16 in the first mids.

Hopefully it's enough for them to pull through and stay in the top 40.

Great to see them at #16 even if they do slump down the charts they should be safe for Top 40. If only they had released cassettes etc., am sure they would have been challenging for a Top 10 place in the update!

Also I love the fact Viva and Drama are some of the most sought after RSD releases - Banquest Records Just restocked them online and they went from having 20+ available to 5 in minutes :cheer:

thats actually amazing

even some of their old albums didn't mange that, ie Wow, which had I Heard a rumour, Love in the first degree, etc

"In Stereo" was at US iTunes top 100 for three days, maybe that's enough to chart at independent albums or at dance albums, as long as Bananarama are considered dance music by Billboard.

New entry in the official uk chart at #29. First time for a studio album in the top 30 for 30 years!!!

#29!

Their highest peaking studio album in over 30 years and their fourth highest peaking studio album followed by Deep Sea Skiving (#7), Bananarama (#16) and Wow! (#26).

It sold 2,642 copies to chart there, which really isn't much more than Viva's first week sales which would've been maybe around 2k

It just goes to show how in the dumper sales are this time of the year.

Great result - they easily could have snatched Top 20 with a little effort into additional formats but regardless it held up better than I expected.
