Why do you hate her so much lol? The album is fantastic, way over 80 on Metacritic. It exactly what an ambitious pop album should be like!

That argument is like me saying "why don't you listen to Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica"? its widely considered one of the best albums ever, therefore you should enjoy it"

See my point?

Yeah, I honestly think there's merit to critical reception as a way of spotlighting something you might otherwise not give the time of day to (because 24 hours in a day isn't enough), but stan wars always distort them and only bring them up when they can be used to validate their opinion (see also: chart positions, sales, streams, views, followers, post engagements, everything). Ariana's metacritic score is very impressive sure, but how many people boasting that will also listen to Architects' album from just 3 months ago which has a slightly higher metacritic score. If metal core isn't your scene, too bad, the meta-score dictates it's essential listening. It's all just a symptom of musical opinions being highly subjective and based on emotions & pre-conceptions. All these metrics are the only manner of objective fact that can be used to dispel the haters. There's also a weird misconception that people believe telling someone their opinion is wrong, and directing them to the 'right' opinion will ever sway them. I have never, ever seen someone say they got into a band because someone told them that the band they like sucks and that they should listen to this band instead. Doing something like that just makes people revel in going against you.

(Note: I like Ariana and wish her the best, I haven't quite taken to the album but I'll inevitably give it much more time soon as I expect it to flood my national chart next week.)

I really like both albums :o

I am happy for Ariana but disappointed by the material. Weakest album so far for me. Time will tell if the streams hold up.
I just used that score to highlight that it's usually generally lame music that gets trashed here (Ed Sheeran etc) when the success is questioned as I think most people think that Ariana puts out great and creative stuff. But quality is always subjective.

A metacritic score is just someones opinion if someone reviewing it liles that genre there is bound to be bias

But if the genre is pop and 12 people who review it like pop music and give it 4-5/5, isn't it a good or even great pop album? I don't see why I couldn't refer to that then in discussion. Obviously metal fans, for instance, might think differently, but I also know a metal fan that was pleasantly surprised (but he checks out new music quite a lot in general).

Great creative stuff, are we talking about the same Ariana? Sure she can release a decent pop song now and again but she isnt exactly pushing the envelope with creativity.

Well if people think Ariana's music is creative they need to expand their musical horizon.

Ooh we love a patronising Polly!

I think she is creative as far as current pop music goes. I haven't heard songs like 'Break Up With Your Girlfriend...' and 'Ghostin' by other artists.

I do think Ari is a lot more talented than the new album suggests. A lot of the songs are a bit samey. But maybe they take a few plays to click? I thought TUN the song was a major comedown at first from the previous 3 singles but I really love it now.

Yes, Ari still has all of the top four, with three more in the top ten.

And after the news broke yesterday morning, Advice gets a new peak at #21.
