A country music classic from 1968. It wasn't released as a single over here until 1975 when it spent three weeks at no.1.

Very underrated song that one! Big fan of the pop-meets-operatic style.

Indeed, it's one of the most hated retro # 1s now. :(

My favourite single from 1982, the follow-up "Just One More Kiss" is very lovely too.

This sold 550,000 copies in its first week, making it the fastest selling debut single by anyone up to that point. The song was first recorded three years earlier by Girl Thing whose members claim to have written some of it but none of them were given writing credits.

The second of Geri's four solo no.1 singles, winning a chart battle against Emma Bunton. I only vaguely remember this one.

Edited by King Rollo

can't remember that chart battle

From 2017,this brought to an end Ed Sheeran's 13 week stay at no.1 with 'Shape Of You'. I've heard it on the radio a few times but this is the first time I've seen the video. We are still waiting for Harry Styles to return to the top 40.

Those two went out earlier than I had anticipated, not too gutted about either of them though.

The second of Taio's two no.1 singles. It was also the first song by a British act to sell more than six million downloads in the US.

Looks like Dynamite received loads of low votes then rather than being completely left out of most. Shame to see that one land so far down but could be worse.

A great pop song and the best of Bucks Fizz's three no.1s. I don't think anyone realised at the time that it was a protest song. The lyrics were written by ex King Crimson member Pete Sinfield who was criticising the policy of Margaret Thatcher's government.

Sign of The Times was a brilliant and unexpected debut solo single for Harry. The video is amazing too, I wish I could fly like him. However, he didn't release anything good since then and I think he is being ostracized by everyone.

The Four Tops' only no.1,spending three weeks at the top of the chart in 1966. This has done better than I expected with 10 people voting for it. The Four Tops are still going after 66 years with one of their original members,Abdul "Duke" Fakir, still in the group at the age of 83.

The best selling single from the 21st Century and the first since 'Singing The Blues' by Guy Mitchell in 1957 to have three separate turns at no.1. Pharrell originally wrote the song for CeeLo Green.
