A one off gig , her first solo gig ever and your taking the piss out of Mel C !

With a major and the spice hype she sadly flopped .

Emma is an angel.

I just find it funny Mel C's forever trying to be this respected solo artist but it is Emma who has had a major label album and peaked at 11 this year and now playing the royal Albert Hall.

Emma Bunton the 'respected solo artist' with her covers album...

Let's compare Emma releasing on a major label and then not even selling a decent amount of copies in the UK after a big campaign with tons of bundles behind her to Melanie who releases on her own independent label with just one album format and a limited promotional campaign / budget... sure that sounds fair. Melanie actually had the balls to do it herself wheres Emma waited 13 years before releasing anything and had to have a label backing her to ensure she did.

I mean give Melanie her dues she has worked her arse off on her own independent label and actually had some pretty decent success with a few songs and if you asked any average Joe who the most 'respected' (I say that very loosely) solo Spice was it would easily be Melanie C pretty much every time. She is the only solo Spice Girl to achieve a top 20 hit in the 90's, 00's and 10's none of the others have done that, she has outsold all the rest and she has actually toured the world and she did play Wembley Arena on her own which is way out of The Royal Albert Halls capacity of 5,500...

This is a fair response and i agree with all of points outlined.

I don’t really get the lifeless accusation (from others too)! The original obviously has a dancier instrumental, but the original vocal was pretty laidback too. Back when the My Happy Place album came out, I worked out that Emma’s verse only lasted 1 second longer than the original song’s verse, so it’s not exactly radically slowed down!

I personally enjoy the vibe of Emma’s cover, it’s really classy but sensual! To me it’s the most interesting and daring cover on there, other than I Wish I Could Have Loved You More.

Emma's cover of Don't Call Me Baby is sexually sensual. :arrr:

We need to give Mel C her cred, I totally agree!!

The original was this really energetic song. The lazy vocal fitted nicely eith the pulsing beat. The vocal was also STRONG and LOUD. Stripping the song of the beat and then whispering the words with a weaker and quieter vocal strips it of any and all energy, no matter the tempo. It is totally lifeless and a massive contrast.

I don't think it was about the lenght of the song or the verse. The way she sings it, more whisper-y than the original, together with the laid back production, just gives it a different groove.

Personally I quite liked it in the beginning but got bored of it pretty quickly, and now find myself skipping it altogether unless im distracted and it just comes in the background. It's ok as a cover, nothing to run home about.

Personally I dont think it is lifeless, just a bit meh now... However, I do think it could have been a good single IF it had a good remix and video, but I would rather she release something like Too Many Teardrops to be honest. Now THAT is a song!!

I'm the opposite lol. I was really disappointed when I first heard it but it has actually grown on me over time and I kinda chill to it now. I still wouldn't have included it on the album though, but tbh I wouldn't have included any of the tracks after the first 4  (although I do really like her version of Emotion so maybe that one actually). I wish I could have loved you more was a fabulous cover though I adore that one

Oh and Too many teardrops is my favourite track on the whole album

I'm so here for I Wish I Could Have Loved You More :cheer:
That charted at #50 :teresa:

But in the end it has sold just as much, despite not being released on 17 different formats.

No it hasn't.

Bashing the girls will get you nowhere.

This.

So what? The difference between 10k and 5k isnt that much in anyone's eyes but seemingly yours, sammy.

As much as we love Emma, we have to admit that she didnt do that well, specially when you consider the level of promo she had, which was significantly better than any of the other solo projects over the past 10 years or so.

Stop bashing the other girls in favour of Emma. Emma is everyone's favourite, that doesnt mean we have to bash the others. What do you get out of it? lol just leave it...

Don’t reply to that ignorant twat.

The sales so far for RAH are abysmal! She is going to have to reduce and promote or this could get cancelled !!

It wont get cancelled. My friend saw Tori Amos there years ago and said it wasnt even close to half full but the show went on, orchestra and everything. The Royal Albert Hall is a different type of venue, not your typical one. The venue invites the artists to come and perform there and pays them to do it.

Also, it will sell with time, as guests are announced and more details come through. She will be fine!
