Nice news in the radio airplay chart! -

Baby Please Don't Stop debuted at #58 on UK airplay chart.

Currently #316 on iTunes, so the airplay is having a slight effect (it's certainly been much lower than that in recent weeks)

Hopefully it translates into some album sales. It is a really good song it's grown on me so much. Such a shame the girls do not get any single success whatsoever anymore, Think about it, Anymore and Baby please don't stop all have potential to be big hits if sung by other acts.

Baby Please Don't Stop is off the Radio 2 playlist :(

I guess the disgusteng flop became too much for them to handle. :arrr:

Um, wouldn't it be quite a scandal if BBC accepted bribes from record companies?

Yes it would. But I do guess that Emma had a deal with BBC2 though, as most of her promotion was through BBC radio 2.

Yeah in the UK you cant pay for radio play or playlisting but record labels can obviously sweeten the deal by giving the station exclusives and promo and of course using other artists to barter. What I mean is if you playlist X then we will give you Y artist exclusive first play etc.

Happy birthday to Baby Please Don't Stop, the first single from Baby Spice since 2007, a whole 12 years since All I Need to Know

Whilst not necessarily a huge success or even a return to the hights of her career, it was met with general praise amongst fans and the critics hailed it as a nice return and one of the only saving graces of the upcoming album, My Happy Place

Sonically, it goes back to the sounds that Emma became known for, and where she thrives best: the 60s, swinging pop of Free Me and Life in Mono. It sounds like it could have easily been on one of those two albums.

The video portrayed Emma having 'fun' at a photoshoot and well, that's about it :arrr:

The ONE televised live performance was fun though. It seemed like she put actual effort onto it, singing live with backing dancers and a band, and sounding GREAT! Wish we had much more of that during that era, specially since the solo Spices weren't/arent known for live singing their own music :teresa:

Did she perform it elsewhere apart from that, the BBC radio show and the Albert Hall?

With hindsight, what do you feel about this song in particular, now that two years have past?

ALSO, does anyone have the audio of her performance of it at the BBC Radio 2 gig she did? I can only find 2 Become 1 and that terrible cover of Don't Call Me Baby

I think it's a great little song, maybe 2nd or 3rd single material. The video is awful though, it's like a behind the scenes at a Sunday paper magazine photoshoot.

My fave single by any of them in the last 5 years.

Deserved to be Top 10

2 years already :drama:

It's a great song. I do wish this (and Too Many Teardrops) had given Emma/BMG the confidence to leave behind the idea of a covers album. Or at least not include quite so many. 80% of the album being covers was really unnecessary.

I'm hopeful that her social media constantly celebrating song and album anniversaries and taking any chance to remind people she's a singer means BMG have more plans than another album filled with covers.

The fact her team are trying to get all her old stuff on streaming services hopefully shows there is a bigger plan.

I think My happy place was a good taster of what she could achieve and there is no reason she can't get a cute top 10 album with critical acclaim (like Melanie C) with an album of new material.

I agree. The album was a mess and it clearly there was enough potential in there for a full album with original tracks. Everyone, including the critics, said it and every single review mentioned the same: it's a shame that the album is full of boring covers when there is clearly good quality music that Bunton can do herself, like the two originals in the album..

For me this, Too Many Teardrops and I Wish I Could Have Loved You More were the only saving graces of the album. All three were good, specially TMT and IWICHLYM which showcased confidence and creative flex on the level of Free Me. Shame about the rest...

We never actually talked much about Metrophonic, have we? What do you think about them?...

I think BPDS is a great song and was the perfect come back song for Bunton as it's frothy and sweet like her. It has that catchy 60s sound but a bit more motowny than her other stuff. I always thought that it would have been great as the lead single from Life in mono instead of Downtown.

Again I also echo people's sentiments about it being a shame she didn't have the confidence, or BMG weren't willing to fund, a full album or originals as this and TMT showcased she still has the ability to make excellent new material. I wish I could have loved you more however is incredible too so I'm glad we got that, and I personally love the duet with Will Young, classy with stunning vocals from both.

I agree, if she invests time into properly promoting an album she could have an era very similar to Mel's recent one with a top 10 album and higher Youtube views and a small tour or a one off date at a bigger venue ala RAH or Shepherds Bush. I can't see Emma doing a tour though I think she would only do a one off date in a bigger venue instead as it's less for her to commit to and she will likely make money from it more than Mel does on her tours.
