Acts involving artists who have just passed ie. Prodigy, Talk Talk, Cadet etc should get an instant reset

Change the record... I've lost count of the number of times you've said that now!

It would be a good idea. It’s not fair that artists who have passed miss the top 40 because of stupid chart rules. Lost count my arse

Completely disagree, sorry. Yes it's tragic, but it would be distasteful to treat it differently and as 'free promo'.

I still remember when he said it was "disrespectful" that Cilla re-entered at #41 after her death.

there labels can always ask for resets if they want
The Prodigy and Talk Talk don't exactly miss the top 40 as the songs have been hits before.

Talk Talk's self-titled single has never made it into the top 40. The other two IML and LWYMI both did though

It did, it made #23 in December 1982.

Oh yeah it did. On its first release in 1982, it missed out but on its second release later that year, it did. Dum Dum Girl missed out I know that

The problem is it would make the charts even more contrived and meaningless. But then it's not like the deceased acts are going to clog up the charts in years to come.

I think some people are missing the point of the 3 track rule, would you want your favourite artist to fill the top 40 singles chart with a back catalogue of Madonna tracks for example.

Exactly. I’m not on about the 3 track rule. I was on about ACR/SCR. And every Christmas even with these rules, you still get Xmas songs clogging up the top 40 every year

Edited by Hadji

People are listening to Xmas songs at Xmas time, they should be represented in the chart.

And the ACR rules should remain consistent even when a musician has died. The Prodigy won't be going near the top 40 in the singles chart whatever the rules are anyway, and whether they re enter at around 70 or miss the top 100 doesn't make much of a difference.

I suppose it'd be interesting to see my favourite artist cover Madonna's back catalogue and then flood the top 40 with it.

That would likely be the best top 40 ever so yes!!! :D
