About a year later, he proved them right. A military kid, Robinson split his childhood between Georgia, Kentucky, upstate New York, and Heidelberg, Germany, eventually settling in El Paso, Texas—a pattern of dislocation that often made him feel like an outsider. Self-described as “an awkward teen,” he picked up songwriting primarily to stave off loneliness, sharing music through SoundCloud and quickly catching the ears of both his peers and the industry. (His breakout single, 2016’s “Location,” was recorded during spring break of his senior year; a few weeks after it came out, he won Prom King; within a couple of years, the song had sold more than five million copies in the U.S. alone.) In 2017, he released American Teen, a celebratory but bittersweet mix of synth-pop and neon-lit R&B that garnered five Grammy nominations—proof that you’re rarely an outsider alone. In between, Robinson featured on high-profile collaborations with Logic (“1-800-273-8255”), Calvin Harris (“Rollin”), and Normani (“Love Lies”), among others. An EP, Suncity, arrived in late 2018, opening with audio of Khalid being given keys to the city of El Paso—not bad for a kid who’d moved there only a few years before. Reflecting on his evolution from spectator to artist for Apple Music’s Up Next series, Robinson said, “I would sit in this apartment, I would look at the mountain behind me, I would watch all the lightning, and I would listen to music. I was like, ‘You know what? I need something to help me a little bit more.’” So he took it on himself and started to write. - iTunes _______________________________________________________________ Top 100 Chart History 2017 43 Rollin (Calvin Harris feat. Growing up, Dave was inspired to pursue art in some form. Taking cues from his older brothers, he initially tried his hand at animation before moving on to piano before finally settling on becoming a fully-fledged grime MC; unfortunately, his brothers would end up serving lengthy prison sentences. To cope with the drastic alteration to their lives, Dave burrowed even deeper into his music, causing him to develop a socially aware form of wordplay that set him apart from his peers. Despite starting to write bars around the age of ten, it was six years later that Dave would make his first appearance, freestyling on an underground grime channel, Bl@ckbox, in 2015. In January of the following year Dave returned with his first music video/single "JKYL+HYD," cementing his reputation for deep subject matter and ambitious lyrics. In the following months, Dave delivered two key freestyles on BBC Radio 1. The first was on Semtex's 1Xtra show and the second on Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth. A number of singles followed, including a standout collaboration with West London's own rising star, AJ Tracey, on "Thiago Silva." By September Dave was ready to drop his first EP, Six Paths. The release was a success in its own right, but gained even more attention when Canadian rapper Drake remixed the single "Wanna Know," bringing Dave's sound to an American audience. - iTunes _______________________________________________________________ Top 100 Chart History Dave 2017 51 Wanna Know (feat. Born in Scotland and raised in Manchester, England, Walker grew up listening to Ray Charles, the Police, and Bob Marley from his father's record collection, and taught himself how to play drums, guitar, piano, and bass. After studying songwriting at London's College of Contemporary Music, Walker began making music in earnest, collaborating with his housemates -- who included members of Whilk & Misky -- in their home studio. One of his songs, 2016's "Sun Goes Down," interpolated the '30s work song "I'll Be So Glad When the Sun Goes Down" and featured poet/musician Kojey Radical. The track earned acclaim and airplay on Radio 1, and Walker signed to Relentless soon after. His official debut single, "Fly Away with Me," arrived later that year. The Blessings EP was released in April 2017, along with a pair of singles, "Heartland" and "Leave a Light On." Walker started working with producer Mike Spencer on his debut album soon after, putting together 12 tracks of impeccably produced soulful, contemporary pop. Preceded by the singles "My Way" and "Angels," the album What a Time to Be Alive -- which took its title from the track "Blessings" -- was issued in late 2018. - iTunes _______________________________________________________________ Top 100 Chart History 2018 07 Leave A Light On -1- 2018 80 Walk Alone (Rudimental feat. Harris runs his own record label, Fly Eye Records. - Wikipedia Rag'n'Bone Man Neo-blues & soul singer Rory Graham was born and raised in the small town of Uckfield in the southeast of England. Growing up on early blues and soul, he taught himself to sing by mimicking Muddy Waters, before discovering hip-hop. Starting out as an MC with a local drum'n'bass crew at age 15, he progressed to hip-hop open-mike nights in nearby Brighton, where he later moved, teaming up with local hip-hop crew the Rum Committee. At the same time, he continued to practice singing in private. At 19, he took part in a blues open-mike night at the encouragement of his father, and the rapturous response to his singing boosted his confidence enough to make him consider it as a career rather than rapping. Graham's Rag 'n' Bone Man moniker came from his childhood memories of sitting in front of the TV with his grandfather, watching repeats of the British '60s sitcom Steptoe and Son, about a pair of rag-and-bone men -- dirt-poor street collectors who in bygone days gathered up rubbish in an attempt to find useful rags, bones, and scrap metal that could be sold to merchants for a few pennies. With his massive bulk, tattoo-covered arms, nose ring, shaved head, enormous beard, and typical garb of hoodie and jeans, Graham looked like an escapee from an early-2000s nu-metal band, but he blew crowds away as soon as he opened his mouth with his deep, powerful, soulful, bluesy vocals. He released his debut EP, Bluestown, in 2012, followed by several EPs over the next few years, with 2014's Wolves and 2015's Disfigured standing out. Graham's early releases were more acoustic, but he evolved toward a more electronic sound with hip-hop-styled beats. In 2013, he signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, which enabled him to give up his day job as a caregiver for people with Asperger's syndrome. His increasing profile brought him to the attention of Columbia Records, which signed him in 2016. His debut single for Columbia, "Human," dropped in September of that year and was a big hit in several European countries. His first full-length effort (also entitled Human) saw release in early 2017. That same year, Graham was honored with two Brit Awards for British Breakthrough Act and the Choice Award. - iTunes _______________________________________________________________ Top 100 Chart History Calvin Harris 2007 10 Acceptable In The 80s -1- 2007 03 The Girls -2- 2007 43 Merrymaking At My Place -3- 2008 01 Dance Wiv Me (Dizzee Rascal feat. With their youthful blend of club-worthy dance anthems, stirring love ballads, and aggressive rapping, BTS connected with a devoted fan base (dubbed "ARMY") and set themselves apart from the K-pop industrial machine when they debuted in 2013 with the first installment of their "School Trilogy" series, 2 Cool 4 Skool. A few months later, they released the second EP of the saga, O!RUL8,2? The trilogy was completed with Skool Luv Affair, which was released around Valentine's Day in 2014. Later that year, BTS released their full-length debut album, Dark & Wild, featuring the single "Danger." As their fan base grew and international tours sold out, they released The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 in April 2015 and the follow-up, Pt. 2, some months later in November. They embarked on a massive world tour as The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2 topped a record-setting six international music charts, including Billboard's World Albums chart. After four weeks, they set a record as the first K-pop act to achieve such a feat. The group continued to break records with the release of its sophomore LP, Wings. Released in late 2016, Wings not only became the first BTS effort to debut atop both the Korean album and song charts, but they were the third K-pop act to land in the Canadian Hot 100. However, the album's impact was most apparent on the Billboard charts. The best showing to date for a K-pop act, Wings debuted in the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 -- both their highest U.S. chart debut and most sales to date -- becoming the first K-pop artists with three albums to enter the main album charts (Wings became their sixth Top Three hit -- and second number one -- on the World Albums chart). They also became the first K-pop act to spend four weeks on the charts. Wings continued the artistic and creative growth for the septet, featuring seven solo tracks that showcased the personality of each member. Four months later, BTS re-released the album as You Never Walk Alone. The updated version added four new songs to the original Wings track listing, including the singles "Spring Day" and "Not Today." With their presence in the United States continuing to expand, the group went on to win the Top Social Artist Award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Their fifth EP, Love Yourself: Her, arrived that September and became the first K-pop album to debut in the Billboard 200's Top Ten, entering the chart at number seven. In early 2018, BTS received their first double-platinum certifications in Japan and became the first Korean act to receive two gold certifications in the U.S. That spring, they issued their third Japanese LP, Face Yourself, which featured Japanese versions of tracks from Wings and Love Yourself: Her. The set -- which included just two previously unreleased songs -- debuted just outside the Top 40 on the Billboard 200. The next month, BTS released their third official full-length, Love Yourself: Tear, which included the single "Fake Love." Days later, they returned to the Billboard Music Awards, performing and winning Top Social Artist for the second year in a row. Their Billboard success continued when Love Yourself: Tear soared to the top of the Billboard 200, becoming the first foreign-language chart-topper on the U.S. chart in over a decade. BTS repeated the feat that summer with the conclusion to the trilogy, Love Yourself: Answer. The chart-topping compilation featured a handful of new tracks, including lead single "Idol," packaged with previously released songs from Her and Tear, as well as some remixes and a Nicki Minaj-assisted version of "Idol." Riding the international success of the Love Yourself series, the boys closed the era with a sold-out global stadium tour, which primed them for the start of the next BTS wave: Map of the Soul. The first single from the album, "Persona," showcased a solo RM rapping about self-image, growth, and adulthood. - iTunes _______________________________________________________________ Top 100 Chart History BTS 2017 90 DNA -1- 2017 43 MIC Drop (BTS feat.
