July 27, 20204 yr It's funny because I grew up with The Saturdays being the only girl group on the scene and was a huge fan (still am)..but when you watch Little Mix, Fifth Harmony and GRL performances you really see just how bad The Sats were. Like, they had a seriously strong discography + were lovely people + they always nailed their acoustics but even The Honest Vocal Coach was constantly criticising them and looking unimpressed while she was blown away by other girl bands. They just never seemed to have that fire inside them to become the worlds biggest girl band. Fifth Harmony get stick for their drama and their out of sync choreography which is fair enough but you saw those girls perform for their lives. They worked their asses off performing in malls and doing tiny gigs to build up a fanbase and even when they were travelling the world and performing to black curtained arenas you still saw them (kinda minus Lauren) being so extra and dramatic and putting 100% into every dance routine and vocal. Little Mix are pretty much the perfect girl band and have everything from vocals to dancing to stage presence on lock. Girls Aloud weren't great vocalists but you saw the energy in their performances and their tours were huge because people knew they could put on a show. GRL were like world class performers before they released their debut single. Then you re-watch The Saturdays and it's just painful. Frankie and Mollie are weak singers, Vanessa's voice was cracking for half their run, Una and Rochelle were inconsistant and then there was all the out of sync dancing, awful pre-recorded 'live' vocals and they just looked so bored half the time. Their Tumble performance was supposed to be a celebration of their Greatest Hits and they had a tour to promote and yet they just stood there? Even half their 'good' performances I've watched back and still aren't nowhere near the standard they should be. EDIT - Wow at Una getting a top 13 smash in Ireland this year. Biggest solo Saturdays hit!! 100% agree. I have always loved The Sats since If This Is Love came out. They released bop after bop, seemed like the nicest girls and they were basically the only girlband around at that time, but having said that- they were just very basic. Nothing stood really out and especially their live peformances were just not that. Like you said, Girls Aloud were maybe not the strongest singers (except for queen Nicola and Nadine), but they always put on a SHOW and stood out. All Saints and Sugababes are amazing vocalists, Spice Girls are just Spice Girls and LM are brilliant performers. The Sats were a bit like Atomic Kitten, although the latter did have some more cultural impact and atleast two MASSIVE pop classics.
July 29, 20204 yr @jaynecollinsmac “Like being in a time warp with these two lovely people. August 2, 20204 yr Really weird she’s working with Jayne after everything that happened following Wordshaker
August 2, 20204 yr What even happened with Jayne? I can't remember the name of their other manager (was it Peter?) he was awful... He legit just let them go on holiday and do the bare minimum 24/7
August 2, 20204 yr What even happened with Jayne? I can't remember the name of their other manager (was it Peter?) he was awful... He legit just let them go on holiday and do the bare minimum 24/7 From what I remember • Jayne originally banned Rochelle from dating Marvin or any other boy band members • She told both Vanessa & Rochelle they were too big to be in girl groups, and is thought to have put them on diet pills • Refused to give them any time off which forced Frankie into being signed off sick with exhaustion during their first album campaign

August 7, 20204 yr Yay, it's about time! All the biggest girl groups of the past 25 years have at least one platinum single, so I'm glad The Saturdays have finally joined that league. I guess it won't be too much longer until Higher becomes their second platinum single - maybe in a year? Other girl groups with two platinum singles: Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten & All Saints.
August 8, 20204 yr Yeh, 'Higher' is getting more streams than What About Us so I would guess that it's on 540,000?
August 8, 20204 yr Very fittingly, 'What About Us' has just been certified Platinum! FINALLY! :cheer: So well deserved and it looks so right on their Discography page on Wiki. Would be nice to see a couple more certs in the next couple of years. as you say I imagine 'Higher' will be next and there is a chance of 'Just Can't Get Enough' and 'Issues' getting Gold at some point, I'd love for 'All Fired Up' to get there but I think that'll take a long time! A bit more of a stretch, but to see another 'Silver' cert in the 'Chasing Lights' era would be beautiful!
August 25, 20204 yr Mollie King has played The Saturdays 25 times on BBC Radio 1 this year. They’ve been played 29 times in total throughout 2020, despite being inactive for 7 years.
