It’s kinda like Hurts 2B Human and Thank U, Next in that I don’t think of it as a full standalone area... it’s a weird grey era. It’s more of a compilation, like JB’s Journals

I’ve heard it all now

So let me get this right. An underperforming album is now labelled as a ‘side project’?
  • Author
This Ed album was always a side project regardless of how well it was going to do. His other three studio albums all had no features, this one is full of them.

Ed has always promoted this as being a side project, how well it sells doesn't change that. It's a follow-up to an EP that he released before '+'. I'm pretty sure he's actually referred to this project as an EP as well (even though it's clearly too long to be called an EP, hence why I consider it to be more of a mixtape than an album).

edit: he's also called it a 'compilation album' in interviews. What you call it is arbitrary but it's disingenuous to act like it's not a different type of release to his 3 previous full albums.

I’ve heard it all now

I’m not an Ed Sheeran fan AT ALL, but I can admit that this is not the proper follow-up. And no I don’t think of H2BH and TUN as standalone eras more like continuations of the previous one. Pink is still on the Beautiful Trauma tour and Ariana is still on the Sweetener tour so it’s pretty obvious they’re the “main” albums. Another comparison would be Cheek to Cheek

Edited by No Sleeep

Mention of Cheek to Cheek makes me wonder if the BEYOND successful A Star Is Born was just a SIDE PROJECT to Gaga

:P Nothing says they can’t be successful just that they generally can “flop” and have no effect on their career

Erm, yes, 'A Star Is Born' isn't part of Gaga's main studio album chronology either. It being more successful than her last couple of proper albums doesn't mean it isn't just a soundtrack.

I thought Beyoncé would’ve been much higher.

A brand new track and it’s not top 40 on Spotify iTunes I thought her name alone would’ve gotten her that high especially considering the way she’s hyped up by the media.

Had that been Rihanna or Gaga the Beyhive would be in full force labelling them flops.

It's not been long since her last brand new song which also did barely anything :P she's been more of an albums artist for quite some time now.

unlike Ed, whose label are pushing his new album like crazy, Beyocne's is a really low key project, no songs are on any playlist, no HH, no Today's top hits, nothing

I still think she would do well if she came back with a proper pop/rnb single, the Lemonade era was damaged in the singles chart cos of the Tidal exclusive but she's on Spotify now

The Lion King is not a low key project it’s HUGE!

I get what you mean by the other parts of that though :)

Gagas Shallow took a while to peak though so maybe this could be the same but I did think that done better initially.

of course the movie is gonna be huge, what I mean is that its got zero push on Spotify, both soundtrack and Beyonce singles
