That must be the first 10+ minute song in the iTunes top 20 since the 20 minute Dave Grohl track from last year.

Here's the first sign that TOOL do, in fact, have a fanbase in the UK :magic:

Gone directly to #1 on US iTunes with a large lead there already.

^probably 200 copies sold yesterday, so they have some UK fans but not gazillions

Doing well on iTunes alone won't get you anywhere, but 5,000 sales can give you a leg up the chart to top up your streams. Like the Kygo and Whitney one.

We probably should get less excited about songs only going top 40 on iTunes but even when sales are low it still means something, and sustaining a top 40 position might be an indication that a song *could* also take off on streams too.

It's also an indication that at least a certain segment of the population is interested in a song, even if they don't stream it in droves. I expect sustained iTunes sales will likely be representative of an "older" audience.

I do think if something hangs around for a while on iTunes it still shows that it's reaching out to people, to those who are actively choosing to seek something out. Maybe as a representative sample size of the population or something like that.

Obviously going top 10 on fanbase buys and slumping down doesn't mean much though, but still.

they were always album only.. it's because the song's over 10 minutes and iTunes doesn't let you download 10 minute songs individually.

the album however is 99p and only consists of one song.

Wasn’t it #1 with like a 70% lead in the US? Yeah I’m gonna need a lot more convincing about their relevance here

as been said a million times, they are super relevant in the US, doesn't mean it translates into the UK

200 people downloading the song yesterday doesn't scream we're the biggest band in the world ever either

Lmao at you thinking that Tool "aren't relevant" in the UK. Even A Perfect Circle reached #12 with their latest album. Tool are way more popular than them. And bands like Sabaton sell 5k/weekly, then Tool surely can do triple than that, especially with the comeback hype.

I didn't say that, sure they're popular but they're not gonna be #1 with 100K sales like some think in here

I'm pretty sure they will sell enough to be top 3

To metal fans Tool albums are a bit like Michael Jackson albums to pop fans (or at least were before the latest scandals).

and not arguing that

just saying that it's in the US that they're massive, not the UK
