August 21, 20196 yr Author I'm gonna say American Life. Fans seem to either love or hate it and it's controversial enough to spark strong reactions in people.
August 21, 20196 yr Hmm I'd probably go for Erotica. I've actually been on both sides of the fence myself. It was an album I'd see a lot of praise for but that I was never able to get into. It was too far removed from my pure pop tastes; that unpolished, dark, moody sound, the whispered vocal, the risqué lyrics - I just couldn't relate to any of it. With time, as my tastes evolved and developed, I could understand the appeal of the album and eventually could say I was a proper fan. I'm not sure if my reasoning for not liking the album is the same as why others dislike it, but I still see comments or rates on the album that are very diverse.
August 23, 20196 yr I'm surprised American Life is so polarising. As Jay said in the 00s rate thread, half the album is pretty accessible. I guess factors that represent or are associated with the album are a bit more abrasive and people form an impression from that - the first two singles, the banned video, Madonna's reputation in America at the time.
August 23, 20196 yr I’d say Erotica. Her most controversial album what’s still spoken about today. But American Life is quite polarising as well.
August 24, 20196 yr Author Erotica is another good shout tbh! I feel it has become more of a love album for many in recent time, proving the naysayers of the time wrong.
