November 12, 200618 yr Author I think its right, for Artists to release Cover Versions, if the song is decent enough! The Only Cover Version imo to ever outstand the original is Mariah Carey's Without You
November 12, 200618 yr Author The Worst Cover Versions: Westlife - All Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds Meatloaf - Its All Coming Back To Me Now I will think of more too :P
November 12, 200618 yr i dont mind cover versions, as long as an artist doesnt release (especially as singles) more than 1 or 2 in their career. i like it when a cover version is made totally different to the original. my favourite cover versions are: the corrs - dreams nelly furtado - crazy tyler james - your woman mariah - ill be there/without you though i hate endless love Edited November 12, 200618 yr by sab
November 12, 200618 yr The Meat Loaf cover is great  isnt it origionally his song though and Celine did a great cover of it :D also theres steps - tragedy, i think that cover songs should be left for on albums only and not be released
November 12, 200618 yr 1. Do you think its Right for artists to Release Cover Versions No. The magic of a song can only be captured once, by re-using it for a single that magic is gone, and it just becomes a marketing ploy. I think it's great if artists cover songs they like or enjoy singing in there concerts, that the way they express themselves artisically, but I dont think covers should be made into singles. however, when an artist uses a sample from an old track then I think that is acceptable as there just taking one part and making the song into there own, pour example 'Hips Don't Lie' 2. In Your Opinion has their ever been a Cover Version, that has been better than The Original I know I'll get criticized for saying this but t.A.T.u's cover of 'How Soon is Now?' is better than the original, it suits them down to the ground and just sounds so great. Also I'd say Mariah's 'Without You' Also, although not better, Leela James 'Dont Speak' gives an old song a new lease of life, totally changing genre and giving a classic ballad a soulful twist 3. Whats The Best Cover Versions Ever? A list of 5 - t.A.T.u: How Soon Is Now - Mariah carey: Without You - Utada Hikaru: With Or Without You - Joss Stone: Fell In Love With A Boy - Leela James: Don't Speak 4. What Are The Worst Cover Versions - Westlife: Uptown Girl - Steve Brookstein: Against All Odds - Hilary & Hailey Duff: Material Girl - Christina Aguilera: I Turn To You - Geri Halliwell: It's Raining Men
November 12, 200618 yr 1. Do you think its Right for artists to Release Cover Versions. Yes. Why not? 2. in Your Opinion has their ever been a Cover Version, that has been better than The Original? Madonna - American Pie (The original was SH*TE) 3. Whats The Best Cover Versions Ever? American Pie 4. What Are The Worst Cover Versions? Anything by Westlife
November 12, 200618 yr Not a fan of them really I mean these dance rehashes that we get dumped with year after year really need to stop :( And why cover a song just to make a repilca of the original with every oooh and aahh intact? I respect them if they are different to the original.
November 12, 200618 yr 1. Do you think its Right for artists to Release Cover Versions - It depends. If they're good then yes. 2. in Your Opinion has their ever been a Cover Version, that has been better than The Original - Yes 3. Whats The Best Cover Versions Ever? Alcazar - Don't You Want Me, DJ Sammy - Boys Of Summer, Placebo - Running Up That Hill (and Dark Globe), Kylie Minogue - The Locomotion 4. What Are The Worst Cover Versions - Westlife - Mandy, Westlife - Uptown Girl, Westlife - Hey Whatever, Westlife - You Raise Me Up, Westlife - Seasons In The Sun, Westlife - I Have A Dream, Westlife - When You Tell Me That You Love Me etc, you get the drift! I think people make too much of a big deal out of cover versions at times, as long as I like them I don't care. It also helps if an artist doesn't do too much of them, and if they add something to the original.
November 12, 200618 yr All these songs considered classics are cover versions: Aretha Franklin- Respect, Marvin Gaye- I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Soft Cell- Tainted Love, The Monkees- I'm A Believer, James Taylor- You've Got A Friend, Roberta Flack- Killing Me Softly. And Elvis Presley- Always On My Mind, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Blue Suede Shoes, Crying In The Chapel, His Latest Flame, Hound Dog, Love Me Tender- I'd better stop with Elvis, I'll be here all day.
November 12, 200618 yr I must admit I never knew some of those were covers ghostwriter, especially Aretha & Marvin! although I had heard Marvin was the 6th person to have that song
November 12, 200618 yr IMO covering a song is OK as long as the artist acknowledges the fact that the song is a cover and pays the writer(s) all the relevant royalties (same with sampling).
November 12, 200618 yr and what do people think of shirley bassey's pink cover? Is that Get The Party Started from the ad?
November 13, 200618 yr Twist & Shout by the Beatles was a great cover version. My Way by Frank Sinatra was too.
