Even that would have been an incentive. Hell, put Step To Me on both Spiceworld and Greatest Hits vinyls and that would have made sense. Also, honouring the original GH design would have been much - MUCH - better than this and at least would have given the fans more incentive as well.

Middle-of-the-road releases get middle-of-the-road results. That has been the way they have handled releases since Forever in 2000, and it shows...

Exactly.

Album Sales:

#42 - Spiceworld

#93 - Greatest Hits

Album Physicals:

#38 - Spiceworld

#86 - Greatest Hits

I'm disappointed. :( Not sure whether it'll even be enough for Top 200. Hopefully we'll be able to find out soon.

Neither album made it into the Top 200. :( Really disappointing! :drama:

Greatest Hits only missed out by 6 sales. #200 sold 777; Greatest Hits sold 771.

It sold 266 physicals (unfortunately I don't know the format split, but I would assume 30-ish CDs vs 230-ish vinyl), 12 downloads, 493 streaming.

We have a new sales total for Greatest Hits: 634,862.

The last total we had is 620,850 on 1st November 2019. Last week (13th March 2020) it had sold 634,091. That was 13,241 sales increase in 19 weeks, which is 696.9 sales per week on average. The average is 700.6 if you include this week's sales.

Unfortunately I don't know any specific details about Spiceworld. Based on Wednesday midweeks, I would estimate: 115 streaming, 3 downloads, 550 physicals, so maybe around 670. I would imagine that would have only been enough to feature within the Top 250, but maybe not even that high.

That's bitterly disappointing... watch Forever vinyl get cancelled now!

They need to give more than just a reprint if they want to sell more though. All it would have taken for me to buy them would have been for them to have put Step to me on the Spiceworld one and printed the GH one in the original cover. You need to give the fans and casual buyers incentives to buy them. Why they haven't re-released Spice, Spiceworld and Forever with unreleased tracks like C U Next Tuesday, Feed Your Love, Woman. Pain proof etc I really don't know???

Sales chart:

#41 FLEETWOOD MAC RUMOURS 594 sales

#43 STEREOPHONICS KIND 565 sales

I still don't know how much Spiceworld sold, but with the above information we now know that it sold somewhere between 565 and 594, so I underestimated it slightly yesterday. So maybe 570 pure sales for Spiceworld / 680-ish overall sales for the week with streaming. Unfortunately making it around 90 - 100 sales away from Top 200.

I agree! Evidently Spice Girls have a few hundred hardcore fans who'll buy their releases on vinyl, so I assume most of these fans would have been swayed into buying a slightly more expensive re-issue which contained more songs on it. I suppose a few fans would have bought both a deluxe and a standard vinyl (cough, me, cough :kink: ). They could have issued CDs at the same time, and included the new expanded versions on downloads and streaming.

When it comes to Greatest Hits, I saw so many fan comments saying "I would have bought it if it had the original cover", so who knows how many potential sales they lost with that decision. It also seems like a lot of people must have been satisfied with owning the picture disc and didn't see a reason to buy the ordinary vinyl version.

There were definitely other ways the label could have milked more sales from these vinyl reissues. I mean, even having them on sale in different colours... 'Spiceworld: exclusive limited white version'... would surely have compelled some more fans into ordering copies.

I'm definitely fearing that Forever won't get made after all. :( I suppose it depends on how Spiceworld and Greatest Hits have done worldwide... perhaps enough to justify Forever being made too. Fingers crossed.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think the Forever vinyl will benefit from being released later in the year, if only because it seems like:

1. November will be its 20th anniversary, and I would imagine the marketing/PR team will push to publish a few articles about the album itself

2. If the rumours of a reunion in 2021 are true, it may well be that they announce it towards the end of the year like last time, so the vinyl will have more visibility by then.

ALSO, why aren't they selling the vinyls and CDs on their website like everyone else?

Because they hate their fans.

Hopefully that'll tempt a fair few people to order it  The white vinyl looks brilliant for Spice.

I think the GH should have had the same cover and then the vinyl which had the SUYL image should have been a limited edition one
Apparently this is a copy of the originally intended vinyl sleeve for Greatest Hits before the label decided to change it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303657036444

I really want the GH to be re-released with the original cover. The one we got was just ok but it certainly should have been just for a special edition. Hope they change it one day!
