The original sleeve ended up selling for £101.10 :o

I got this while working at Universal (I worked there from 2002 until early this year). The original plan was for the Greatest Hits vinyl to have this cover, so these were made for the 5 test pressings. 2 went off to market research - I’m guessing the feedback was to use a photo cover instead, but either way this cover was never used. The other test pressings were stored but the covers scrapped. I was allowed to keep 2 of them (I thought it would look cool framed), not realising these would be the only sleeves with the original jewel letter artwork.

 

Please note this listing is for one empty sleeve only, not the vinyl record.

 

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask, I’ll also be listing more items I acquired throughout my 18 years at the label over the next few months, including rare promos etc.

Please note - just to avoid confusion - this listing is for the outer record sleeve only, and not the red inner sleeve or the vinyl, which were taken from the released final product for photos only.

 

 

I'm still disappointed that the GH wasn't released with the original cover. It seems to me that it's what most Spice fans actually wanted. I assume the label worried that the original jewel logo version wouldn't stand out as much as the cover with an image of the Spice Girls on it. Unfortunately the vinyl sold quite poorly in the end, so maybe that wasn't a good decision.

 

I'm honestly surprised that the Spiceworld vinyl didn't do too well in the end either. It felt like there had been such a high fan demand for it for years, and then when it finally came, it was a bit of a tumbleweed moment...!

 

Also wondering what is going to happen regarding the Forever vinyl. It's still up for pre-order on amazon.fr, but it's changed to 'TBC'... https://www.amazon.fr/TBC-Tbc/dp/B07ZLHXWMB - still has a release date of 20th November, just under 10 weeks away.

The product image for Forever on Amazon.fr has changed to show what appears to be bonus postcards, so it really looks like Forever is going ahead!

It's annoying that it's still only available to pre-order on Amazon in France, and very random too. I'm sure a few of their big fans in the UK will have already pre-ordered from there, which will take away from the potential sales here.

 

It'll be interesting to see how Forever does as a "first time on vinyl" release. I would have thought there'd be less demand for it than Spiceworld, which didn't end up doing particularly well...

Nope as they aren't ordering from a French address.

Just ordered it! 48th best seller in cd & vinyls, 9th best selling vinyl and 3rd in Hot New Releases... That's.... not that bad?!

 

Honestly cant believe they kept the orginal artwork when the GH one was swapped for a worst picture lol Im a bit :wacko: but also :teresa: at having it in a big format :lol:

Oh I meant in terms of pre-orders, not the actual chart. Just went back on this thread and it seems like Spiceworld was #1 on Amazon chart and the GH was #8...

Now up to #23 / #3 respectively!

 

Of course the social media hasn’t even mentioned it 🙃 It’s doing nicely so far considering this is just based on word of mouth or randomly discovering it.

Actually their social media just put out this statement:

We're excited to announce that we're re-releasing 'Forever' for the first time on vinyl on 20th November 2020! The vinyl will feature a gatefold sleeve, four collectable art prints and artwork specially re-created for this vinyl release.

I’m incredibly surprised and impressed that the label has put quite a bit of effort into this Forever release. I would never have predicted that they’d bother to make this a gatefold release! :o The postcards are a nice touch too.

 

Specially recreated artwork... so I guess that means they found the original photos, so they can make it a high quality cover & not a scan. That’s great!

This does make me feel a bit disappointed that they didn’t handle Spice, Spiceworld and Greatest Hits albums with the same level of care though.
