We knew of ANOHNI's 'Drone Bomb Me' but nothing else, so we're pleased that this is another good song to feature her. Next, Jupiterdonia sneak in with a song we actually discovered ourselves a few months ago. We thought it was nice enough and considered it for Unknown Pleasures, however we found that it lacked a little something so never went as far as sending it. Pleasingly, this second wind has allowed us to appreciate it more than ever! 'Lemonade' was not quite in our semi points but grew enough for final points. Strong spooky vibes there. Speaking of which, we have a super spooky double next with Dobago and Cor Lupus! We were a little taken aback by the title of Dobago's song (named after tank girl?!) but that aside, the song itself is an enjoyable banging standout. Cor Lupus' is not quite as bold but still very pleasing to the ears, we love i_o's electronic style that even Grimes is on board with. We think this would've done just fine even without an AQ, but who are we to talk when we used ours last month on Active Child! Espen round off this section with a disco legend who is still making music all these years later - we can confirm that he's still got it! 06 Unovia: Franky Wah - Hide (feat. If this isn't a landslide winner then... well... I'd be truly surprised! A storming dance song right there. Ojnoj smash it out of the park with a really instant male vocal synthtastic song, which doesn't feel a million miles off Leon Else's music. We're pleased that Benji from Pitch Perfect went on to carve such a solid sound for himself. Taahino send their best entry in absolutely ages! This is a rock song with a stupidly catchy chorus that is delivered with bundles of personality. FLJ provide us with yet another Digitalism triumph, following in the footsteps of previous entries by Persephonia and Beaverdonia. We must confess that we gave Cowtermont a 12 in the semi, so 10 here feels a bit low, but this is just because we stanned the opposite semi to the high heavens, no hard feelings! '9 Times' was a spot on entry for Halloween - so LOUD and creepy! 11 Séyetana: GHOST DATA - T O M I E 12 Summericia: Nobuo Uematsu - Toberu Mono (Thaehan Remix) Just missing out on medals are these two but you guys did so well nevertheless! Séyetana receive their first double-figure points from us this year, as that instrumentation is irresistibly gorgeous. We love the interwoven spookiness too and the dark cartoon artwork - all on point for October. Summericia smash it again after getting double-figure points from us last month too! This grew on us more and more. Another one with seriously stunning instrumentation - we're a sucker for strings as ever. Synths last month? Strings this month? Summericia sure know how to invite Jadakissnia back in! 13 Aeroche: ∆XIUS LIИK - KØNSTANTA 15 Deandria: María Daniela Y Su Sonido Lasser - Zombie 2000 18 Persephonia: Amon Tobin - One Shy Morning The nation getting our bronze are no strangers to success! This is of course Aeroche with their in-your-face witch house offering. They are appealing to us so much this year with their venture back into dark music - 'Come Closer' and this especially are divine. I can never resist witch house <3 the sample is really infectious and the signature witchy production of the sub-genre is delightfully spooky. Deandria also deliver a Halloween entry that appealed to us enough to get a silver medal! We were sold already when Español was part of the equation. Mix that with Halloween themes and electronic production and we simply cannot resist. What an absolute blast this is. But, coming on top are of course... Persephonia! We may have experienced a blip a couple of months ago, when neither of us pointed each other, but order is restored with me giving them an 18 now just like the good old days. Some may describe 'One Shy Morning' as background music or Moby-esque or perhaps even like something from the 'Blue Planet' soundtrack... but we are here for this! It's both unsettling and chilled at the same time. We don't know how this is possible but it just is.
