Continuing it's further slide into bureaucracy and irrelevance then, I see? To go from Geri Halliwell emerge pole dancing from a pair of legs to this in two decades is quite a fall TBH.

They rush over the International categories so quickly now that they might as well just scrap them all imo.

In any case, I’m fully expecting next year’s ceremony to see nominations for: Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran, Sam Fender, Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello, Lizzo, Ariana Grande. Reckon it’ll be another vanilla ceremony tbh.

  • 3 weeks later...

Beabadoobee, Celeste and Joy Crookes have been nominated for Rising Star (former Critics' Choice) - and the winner will perform at the ceremony.

Bea has to win this

Never heard of any of them lol. I'm guessing the name change of the award is to allow more unknown acts be nominated? Past nominations have always had some degree of success.
Beabadoobee seems to be the biggest of them (probably on a similar level to what Sam Fender was this time last year) based on streams and followers. I almost saw her on the Dirty Hit tour on Saturday but am seeing her open for The 1975 next year which will be great.

they're all nice enough, more "like" than "love" for me

knew this Bea was gonna get a push cos she was track #3 last week on NMF while lots of far bigger names were placed lower than her, even Lewis Capaldi!

they are all nice and have potential but they're more like in Jorja Smith territory than Adele or Amy Winehouse

In what way are you comparing them?

I read an article in which they mentioned past winners of the award and they were all big names, Adele for sure, maybe not Amy

but also Florence, Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sande, all big names that ended up selling gazillions of records,

which I really cannot see these 3 doing

the category is gonna be pretty fierce, it's gonna be 1000% sure to Lewis Capaldi

but they also have to nominate Ed and then all the UK rappers (Dave, Stormzy, Fredo)... doubt there's place for RW

I reckon Stormzy will be in the 2021 awards given the release date - usually November is the cutoff.

My prediction for Best Male is:

Ed Sheeran

Lewis Capaldi

Sam Fender

Dave

Tom Walker (Stormzy if eligible)

they seem very pro-urban in recent years :/

By pro-"urban" you mean anti? Other than Stormzy winning in 2017 it's been a hugely underrepresented genre at the BRITs otherwise, save the international male category anyhow.

oh I might be mixing it up with something else, what did Dave win?
