We do seem to have slightly less Christmas songs charting on a year-on-year basis, judging by a same-day-last-year comparison (18/12/18 update here). Although it could be down to what day of the week it is.

 

The best comparison will be how the songs do on Christmas Day itself.

Bombay Bicyke Club, Sigma And Nyge are the top 3 on NMF this week

that Nyge song also features AJ Tracey (and Kranium) so looks like we'll get at least one new song making somewhat of an impact this week.
Mariah #1 by 7k today at 509k. Most Xmas songs got a little bump up

Yes, I didn't get around to doing it yesterday.

 

Yesterday's update will be coming later today, we usually don't get updates until the mid afternoon now. I'll be at work when it comes too.

With the amount it gets played on TV and radio at this time of year, Stay Another Day doesn’t really get huge streams to reflect that ongoing support.

 

None of this year’s new Xmas songs really took off, even those that got playlisted. Makes it’s all the more impressive how well Leona and Kelly continue to do year after year. Ariana too but the other two aren’t exactly relevant anymore so it’s always great to see them so high.

I think it's also the case that East 17 are doing disproportionately poorly on Spotify due to bad playlisting, they're 56 on AM and 73 officially.
Ironically Tones had a slight increase on Spotify this week. Take it she won't be in line for an automatic reset now or in Jan?

she'll have to increase by 25% in the week after this to get a reset... which seems very possible considering people will stop streaming Christmas songs and go back to the year's biggest hits.

 

unless, of course, the OCC change the rules regarding this again. and we are apparently getting a rule change in Jan.

With a couple of exceptions, Xmas songs definitely aren’t doing as well as last year. On the weekly charts last year Band Aid spent all of December in the top 5, this year they haven’t even cracked the top 10. Same for the Pogues

Most of the classics are a good 10/15 spots lower week on week throughout most of the month. This seems like the first year in a while where Xmas songs haven’t seen a big boost in streaming numbers

Annoying that acr is stopping kelly from repeaking this year has been the year UTT genuinely been at its most popular
