If anyone hasn't heard this and has a spare 10 minutes then I think it's important that you change that. I must warn you though that it focuses on a potentially difficult topic for a lot of people and is very likely to effect you emotionally so make sure you're in the right headspace before you do so. This is the most beautifully written song of the year and surely the song which won him the year's Mercury Prize. Dave is an amazing storyteller (see How I Met My Ex for more proof of that) and the part in this song where he raps from the perspective of Lesley is gut-wrenching. I know it was a feature of the album but I really wish he left out the therapy interlude at the end of this track because it does slightly distract from what is an incredibly important message that the song ends on.

The whistle note :wub: :wub: :wub: This is probably the closest Ariana has come to anything of 'Yours Truly' for a while and she's never sounded better than this. It's pretty much a polar opposite to Thank U, Next in tone but it still sounds perfectly placed on the album. This only finishes so low because I go back to it a lot less than the other tracks on TUN.

Kicking off the top-half of the countdown is a song that seemed to explode out of nowhere, Jay1's 'Your Mrs'. The song is silly ("nah brudda I'm joking) but it is catchy and I enjoy his flow. Originally I was thinking it was great to see a rapper not from London (or Manchester I guess with Bugzy & Aitch) having some success with how much he mentions Coventry but apparently he only moved there in 2016 and he was originally from... London.

The remix of this is obviously one of the biggest hits of the year but Aitch's verse in particular really puts me off that. Give me this original any day. Although this is very similar to Gun Lean, there is one major difference. This one actually has some sort of a tune which makes it catchy. Tion Wayne's also pretty decent on it too.

The most apt word to describe this song and video would be unsubtle but that doesn't always have to be a bad thing. It's a simple but catchy song and Becky really shines in her parts. The video is obviously the largest selling-point to the song and to quote Lo(v/s)er by AJ Tracey "I love a pretty Latina".

And now for a song which is the polar opposite of the one that came before. This was my #1 on album release week because it sounds nothing like Watsky's ever done before. This is highly experimental and sounds more reminiscent of a Rage Against The Machine track than anything else. This sound is dark, loud and angry which makes it stand out from the more chilled and light tone of the rest of the album to this point. I love the outro of this track where after all the chaos it ends on a relaxing sample that was previously used in the 'All You Can Do' album.

I like the vibe of this track, it's very jazzy and gives a hint of what made 'Havana' so popular. It's a shame this never really took off for her but at least she has My Oh My. Although originally debuting at #2 behind Shameless, this held up so much better than that did that I would never have guessed I was going to rank it lower here until the album released and I fell in love with Shameless once again. On an unrelated note, how good does Camila look with red hair :o

This is the best song off the Top Boy soundtrack and it was no surprise to see it become the TV show's only top 40 hit. This does sound very similar to Funky Friday and lands in only a few places here than that did last year. I think this is the better track, both tracks have some nice wordplay and earmworm's for choruses but I think they just land slightly better here. Sorry Fredo. :lol: This was originally going to be on Dave's album but I'm glad he held it back for Top Boy because it fits in better there.

This song is a pretty standard, cliche 'money corrupts' song but it's done well; Gambino kill's his verse and chorus and 21's flow is as fun as ever. This was my first new #1 of 2019 so feels ancient compared to some of the other songs in here. This was in a close battle with another track off 21's album to see which featured artist could get their first #1 in my charts. Gambino won the battle with 'Monster' but has lost the war as the other track is still to come.
