I like half of your top 10, and have not heard the other four, which I have added to my weekly Spotify playlist to check out. I listened to Egoism after seeing you tweet about them, 'What Are We Doing' is the one I enjoy most, and like Enemies too. I wasn't as fussed on Maps album this year as I'd like to have been but it is good and 'Just Reflecting' is in a similar position for me for the year.

Nice to see Your Girlfriend in the Top 10, however it did actually make the UK Top 100! Peaking at... #100 :kink:

This Life was another decent offering from Vampire Weekend although Harmony Hall was my favourite of their recent offerings.

Giving your #2 a listen now, very nice, the sort of music I'm getting more and more time for as of recent.

#1

Harmony Hall

Vampire Weekend

Album: Father Of The Bride

And so my favourite song of 2019 is the comeback single from one of my favourite bands. There was a six year gap since Vampire Weekend's last album, and given the passing of time & reconfiguration of the band (with Rostam Batmanglij no longer being a permanent member), I wasn't sure that the band would be able to re-spark my interest in the way that their earlier material did.

Well, along came "Harmony Hall", the first single of Vampire Weekend Mk II, which blew away all my doubts on one fell swoop. The song is miles away from the indie-rock sound that first attracted me to them, but still feels like it's a natural progression for the group (especially given that the main lyric also features on the song "Finger Back" from their last album).

The lyrics have layered meanings, with inspirations coming from the White House, slavery & Jewish identity, with the music taking inspiration from roots music, baroque, baggy, and even a little country twang in there, as well as a production that both mimics and plays with the lyrics. From the moment I heard the song back in January, I had no doubt in my mind that it would be my favourite song of 2019, and 11 months later, no other song this year could top it.

Previous chart positions:

2008 A-Punk - #1

2009 Horchata - #39

2010 Holiday - #34

2013 Diane Young - #7

2013 Unbelievers - #30

2019 This Life - #5

Fab choice of #1! Will be fairly high up in my EOY also, a really great comeback from them and one of their best of all time in my opinion.

Great EOY all round as well, I've enjoyed following this thread and found a few interesting new songs along the way.
