January 6, 20205 yr So glad Swinson is gone. She is to blame and NO ONE ELSE for this shitstorm election and 5-10 years of hard tory rule and a hard brexshit. The lib dems campaigned against tuition fees. We now have the highest fees in the world. The lib dems campaigned against brexshit and refused to work with Labour in the Commons. We got the hardest brexshit on offer. Thanks Lib Dems! Xxxxx She deserved to lose her seat over this.

The tuition fees Labour then trebled after promising not to? Labour consistently refused to work with the Lib Dems to get a referendum on the deal. Labour stubbornly insisted on Corbyn leading an alternative government even though there was not sufficient support, with or without the Lib Dems. Labour had two chances in the last couple decades to change the electoral system, thereby making an 80-seat Tory majority almost impossible. They failed to take either chance. Please change the record. You're getting very boring.
January 7, 20205 yr https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-42890990 Indeed! She came out as Pansexual, it’s be fantastic to see a pan leader of a mainstream political party. Surely in this supposedly progressive age, it should make no difference? So glad Swinson is gone. Xxxxx She deserved to lose her seat over this. The LD's only got 11 MP's, and you're trying to blame *them* for Labour's election defeat? We're still to work out what kind of Brexit we will have, so your statement is very premature. :o :o Me and Michael agree on something. Presumably not about the 'Swinson being solely to blame for *Corbyn's* election defeat' part, though. :P
January 18, 20205 yr The Lib Dems have decided to delay the leadership election until after the May elections.
January 18, 20205 yr Author Seems an odd thing to do, is there a reason why they've gone that way? Are potential leaders worried about being blamed for potentially losing seats in the local elections, or is there some other reason for it?
January 18, 20205 yr I assume it's based largely on the assumption that there is no real reason to rush into a decision. There is speculation that the new MP for St Albans might stand. I suppose a delay gives her a few months either to establish herself or decide to sit this contest out.
January 18, 20205 yr The Lib Dems need to pick a strong leader and help us destroy the Tories and not attack Labour. A strong Lib Dem party means a weaker Tory one.

January 18, 20205 yr The tory party is pure evil and was set up to protect the interests of the stablishment and of the rich at the expense of the poor. Hopefully in 100 years or so the party will no longer be a force. At the moment we live in a one party state.
January 18, 20205 yr The Lib Dems need to pick a strong leader and help us destroy the Tories and not attack Labour. A strong Lib Dem party means a weaker Tory one. We need a pair of leaders who can work together in the way Blair and Ashdown did. Maybe that's another reason for delaying the leadership contest. If Labour choose someone as tribal as Corbyn, the chances of co-operation are slim. I can see Starmer being far more open to the same sort of unwritten deal (not to campaign too hard in seats the other party had a good chance of winning) that Blair and Ashdown did.

That explains why Lab and Libs both had a huge number of mps at the same time. I didn't realise there had been an unofficial deal between them!
January 18, 20205 yr That explains why Lab and Libs both had a huge number of mps at the same time. I didn't realise there had been an unofficial deal between them! It's easy to overlook the fact that the Lib Dem share of the vote actually went DOWN in the 1997 election but they won a lot more seats!
January 18, 20205 yr The Dr. is right. Chukka's been on the box a lot over the past few months.Turning up everywhere. Bet he never turned down an invitation. It's true I've never known a politician who loved the spotlight so much and the media loved him to. Glad he's manuovred himself out of Parliament!

I can see Starmer being far more open to the same sort of unwritten deal (not to campaign too hard in seats the other party had a good chance of winning) that Blair and Ashdown did. I would argue Swinson was the tribal one!
January 19, 20205 yr That explains why Lab and Libs both had a huge number of mps at the same time. I didn't realise there had been an unofficial deal between them! That was more a combination of Labour actually having a *popular* leader & a moderate manifesto, Tory unpopularity from the ERM fiasco, and sleaze.
January 19, 20205 yr That was more a combination of Labour actually having a *popular* leader & a moderate manifesto, Tory unpopularity from the ERM fiasco, and sleaze. So labour should just tip toe round the edges and mimic the tories and basically don't change the country at all.
January 19, 20205 yr So labour should just tip toe round the edges and mimic the tories and basically don't change the country at all. That's a good strategy if you want to get elected.
January 19, 20205 yr So labour should just tip toe round the edges and mimic the tories and basically don't change the country at all. Thqt's what the neoliberal tories like vidcpper want, convenoently ignoring the 40% for Lab vsa Tory party buoyed by the unity of the right and brexshit, with a left wint manifesto with extremely popular plans and policies!!! Bojo and Cummings undid this: 1. Undermining Labour campaign strengh by ID threats, making postals go up by the modt EVER to 39%. Very strange. Anyway postal voters vote EARLY. The narrowing of polls etc doesn't affect them hence Laura et Tories bragging about the postal strength ... even though they shouldn't have seen them but w/e. Corrupt UK is corrupt. 2. The most vicious attacks and smears on a politician in histoey, never letting up 3. One party state media, corrupt BBTory 4 . Brexshit Being left wing, as we see from 17 in slightly fairer times, is not the problem.
