The Monkees - Alternate Title

Ray Parker Jr - Ghostbusters

Eric Prydz vs Floyd - Proper Education

Jermaine Stewart - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off

The Wanted - Chasing The Sun

Just the five songs on 9 points including Eric Prydz's reworking of Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall'. The Monkees' song was supposed to be called 'Randy Scouse Git' after its writer,Mickey Dolenz, had heard the phrase used by Alf Garnett on 'Till Death Us Do Part'. The record company weren't very happy and asked him for an alternate title,to which he replied "OK,Alternate Title it is".

Appleton - Fantasy

Adam & the Ants - Antmusic

Erasure - Sometimes

Felix Jaehn featuring Jasmine Thompson - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)

Elvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel

The Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen

John Lennon's posthumous no.1 'Imagine' prevented Adam and the Ants' finest song,'Antmusic',from reaching no.1 while there seems little doubt now that 'God Save The Queen' sold more copies than Rod Stewart's no.1 in the week of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Our oldest song and Elvis Presley's chart debut also goes out.

Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy

Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill

Shayne Ward - No Promises

Just three songs on 11 points. Right Said Fred's no.2 is remembered much more than their no.1. We also have Shayne Ward's follow up to his big selling debut single.

Adele - Chasing Pavements

Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm

Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene,It's An Arms Race

Lionel Richie - All Night Long (All Night)

Calum Scott- Dancing On My Own

Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind

All Night Long was Lionel Richie's highest charting solo hit until he reached no.1 with 'Hello' which was also the title of a no.1 single by Adele who appears here with 'Chasing Pavements'.

That line could almost have been taken from one of my chart commentaries

oh Chasing Pavements is a great song
I also thought of linking Dancing On The Ceiling to Dancing On My Own but that would have taken it too far. :D

You can never take connections too far :P

Busted - Air Hostess

Justin Bieber and BloodPop - Friends

Bachman-Turner Overdrive - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

Girls Aloud - The Show

The Police - Can't Stand Losing You

Luciano Pavarotti - Nessun Dorma

Rihanna - Russian Roulette

Sash! featuring La Trec - Stay

Tin Tin Out and Emma Bunton - What I Am

'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' from 1974 is one of the best classic rock anthems. Nessun Dorma reached no.2 after being used by the BBC as their 1990 World Cup theme tune. We also have 'Can't Stand Losing You' by The Police which only got to no.42 when it was first released but after 'Roxanne' was a hit for them, the re-issue got to no.2. Emma Bunton's 'What I Am' was kept off the top of the chart by fellow Spice Girl Geri Haliwell's 'Lift Me Up'.

Me being the only person to vote for 'Castle On The Hill', ofc xx #edsheerandefenceforce

Chumbawamba - Tubthumping

Geri Halliwell - Look At Me

JoJo - Leave (Get Out)

Mud - The Cat Crept In

Rihanna - SOS

Shaft - (Mucho Mambo) Sway

The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Take That - Rule The World

'Golden Brown' is surely the best top 40 single to feature prominent use of the harpsichord. Also here is Chumbawamba's drinking anthem and some 70s pop by Mud.

nooo it's Tori Amos - Caught a Lite Sneeze <3 <3 the harpsi <3

Abba - Chiquitita

Sam Cooke - Wonderful World

Duran Duran - Save A Prayer

Erasure - Crackers International EP

Emerson,Lake and Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man

LL Cool J featuring Jennifer Lopez - Control Myself

Christina Milian featuring Fabolous - Dip It Low

Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You

Razorlight - Somewhere Else

This six minute epic is Duran Duran's best song,in my opinion. If you've been watching the TOTP repeats on BBC4 in the last few weeks, you will know that the main track on Erasure's EP is 'Stop'. As with many prog rock groups,Emerson,Lake and Palmer were mainly an album band so the instrumental 'Fanfare For The Common Man' was a one hit wonder for them. It was based on a piece of music from 1942 by the American composer Aaron Copland. Wonderful World by Sam Cooke only got to no.27 in 1960 but reached no.2 when it was re-issued in 1986.

Artful Dodger featuring Craig David - Re-Rewind (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta)

Bon Jovi - Always

Darts - The Boy From New York City

Major Lazer x DJ Snake featuring MO - Lean On

George Michael - Outside

Sweet - Fox On The Run

Sweet were a bit unlucky chartwise. This is one of five no.2 hits for them. They had only one no.1. 'The Boy From New York City' was one of three consecutive no.2 singles for Darts who never had a no.1.

I was very close to giving Darts some points. For a short period, they put out some great singles.

Sorry to see that I was the only one to give Sam Cooke points :(

Bachman Turner Overdrive's song lost some credibility when Ronald Reagan quoted its title in his re-election campaign.
