oh I imagined Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott would be an easy #1

Their last album in 2017 was #2 with 23.5K beaten by Lana's LFL by 1K

by comparison, the last Deacon Blue album went to #13 with 4.9K sales in 2016

Could yet still be that Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott finish above Deacon Blue overall but there is an upward trend with Deacon Blue's chart positions and given the reviews of "City Of Love" suspect they will make the Top 10 again for the first time since 1994 !

I expect top 10 too for Deacon Blue but not #1

I guess iTunes is not the bestest indicator for album from old bands

thats surprising to me, thought Niall Horan would have no competition

The Shires' last 2 albums both debuted at #3 with similar sales (14.9k and 14.3k). Niall's debut also entered at #3 with higher sales of 22.7k although notably that was well into Q4. I hope he'll be able to get the #1 but wouldn't be surprised if it was pretty close.

Hope Four Tet can get a new chart peak, he only has one top 40 album so far which got to #35 (last couple of releases both got to #48).

Might give the new Baxter Drury a spin this weekend; the last album was great.

Just for reference how much did the last Weeknd album sell? Think Morrissey may have a chance...

sure the #1 is for The Weeknd to take this week, no competition

Morrissey has no chance, his last album bombed

just checked and the last proper album by The Weeknd was Starboy which sold 36k on week1, 15K of which were streams... so with just those streams alone he'd be #1 this week... his last EP counted for the album charts and did worst though (16k in total on week 1), but was not a proper album... also the current album has been preceded by Blinding Lights, his biggest hit ever

Morrissey was traditionally always selling very well, and his 2017 album sold 25,728 copies, 7K alone on vinyl/cassette

but his album last year only did 8K, which was a huge surprise to everyone, I was expecting him to do 8K on vinyl alone

Edited by Bjork

The Weeknd should be fine seeing as most of his sales will be SEA anyhow, but pure album sales all around will most likely be the lowest they've ever been.
