No 24th Grand Slam for Serena.

The American called on the trainer for an Achilles problem early in the third set and struggled physically from then.

Belarusian Azarenka faces Japan's 2018 champion Naomi Osaka in the final.

didn't see the semis, bloody Americans choosing a timeframe that only fits them, not the rest of the world

but on the previous rounds Serena was playing really bad and making gazillions of unforced errors, only passed thanks to her serve

Yes,it's annoying they couldn't start at least one semi-final earlier. I watched the first set of Osaka's match before going to bed which was very even until she won the tie-break easily.

I thought two years ago that Serena wouldn't be able to equal that record but this tournament gave her a last chance with other players being rusty or not there at all.

I hope Azarenka wins the final as the underdog but don't mind if Osaka wins it.

Austrian Dominic Thiem will face German Alexander Zverev in Sunday's US Open men's final after overcoming Russia's Daniil Medvedev in a semi-final of high quality at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

It was a match that saw Thiem benefit from a disputed decision in the first set then twice break back as the third seed served to take sets two and three.

Thiem sealed a 6-2 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-5) victory as Medvedev found the net.

Thiem and Zverev are looking to win their first Grand Slam singles title.

Sunday will also witness the first male major singles champion born in the 1990s.

Thrilled for Osaka, definitely one of the most likeable players on the women's side.

Not hugely bothered who wins the men's but I'm leaning towards Thiem cos Zverev just rubs me up the wrong way for whatever reason.

She did well to claw her way back into it after going 6-1 2-0 down. Azarenka started really well. The match got better as it went on.

Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 1994 was the last person to win the womens' US Open final after losing the first set.

Good for Thiem! Should be a big fave for the French next month too.

Both winners coming from quite far behind to win, must've been exciting watches.

The mens final was fantastic, especially the final set. Dominic Thiem just never gave up. Having come from two sets down to 2-2,he was then 5-3 down in the fifth set and struggling with a leg injury. The standard of tennis throughout was really high.

Having lost three grand slam finals before,it was good to see Thiem finally win one.

really surprised Them ended up winning, I only saw the first 2 sets and went to bed thinking Zverev was gonna win it

as Them was playing very bad and Zverev very well, what happened in the end? Zverev gold cold feet I guess?

Zverev was still playing well after the second set but his standard dropped a bit which was enough to let Thiem back in and he also served some double faults at the wrong moments.

Andy Murray has been given a wildcard to the main draw of this month's French Open.

The 33-year-old Scot, currently ranked 110, required hip resurfacing surgery in 2019 to save his career and reached the US Open second round this month.

Murray, winner of three Grand Slams and French finalist in 2016, has not appeared at the event since losing to Stan Wawrinka in the 2017 semi-finals.

This year's first round begins at Roland Garros on 27 September.

All the other wildcards in the men's competition are French, while in the women's singles, there are places for Canada's Eugenie Bouchard, a French Open semi-finalist and Wimbledon finalist in 2014, and 2020 US Open quarter-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova.

was watching the Roma tournament and bizarrely Sophia Kenin, #2 in the world, lost 6-0 6-0 to Azarenka

c'mon, the number 2 in the world cannot lose like that to anyone

and there were no injuries no excuses just playing awful

just shows how bad women tennis is at the moment

According to the WTA, Kenin is ranked No. 5, but the point still stands I guess.

1. Barty

2. Halep

3. Osaka

4. Plíšková

5. Kenin

Kenin was the #2 seed at the US Open, thats why I thought she was the #2 worldwide too
