Ferrari unveil the SF1000 at 5.30pm GMT and if these teases are true it could be much better looking than the recent ugly cars - a matt finish with a return to the old darker red colour AND large numbers that owe a nod to Gilles Villeneuve.

Sounds great already. I just hope that hideous nose is gone.

Chinese GP officially postponed. Not sure where they're gonna find a spare weekend later in the season if indeed they don't cancel it altogether.
Vietnam is also potentially under threat, given it's quite close to the border.
The new Toro Rosso has a beautiful livery. Red Bull do a great job at designing the liveries for their cars

Imola has offered to host a Formula 1 race to replace the cancelled Chinese GP in April – but even the venue’s boss acknowledges that the bid could be a “mission impossible.”

Imola 😍

I’m not opposed to Non-European races. I deeply miss Sepang for example, but I’m sick to death of the boring tilkedromes in the desert in countries with frankly atrocious records on human rights. China can be gone from the calendar and never return. The less said about the season closing farce the better. Sportwashing is such a distasteful tactic.

Can’t post a vid as am at work right now but well worth looking at the new Mercedes DAS system. Will be interesting to see how that plays out

The FIA have banned the DAS system from next year.

I’m surprised it took that long. Can’t see anyone else bothering to develop their own now

The FIA have banned the DAS system from next year.

“From next year”

So that’s the FIA just secured another year of shit so Merc & Hamilton can take another set of titles without have to risk any actual competition.

We have a couple of hours to get our brake bias system off the car but merc get the whole year of a system with profoundly more impact. Sure jan, that’s fair.

You should read this article. The FIA's hands were tied for this year. It's possible it could still fall foul of Parc Ferme rules regarding suspension changes (although I doubt it)

The FIA can't just quickly make up a new rule on the go. They need the permission of all 10 teams to do so. However, the FIA recently changed this. From the 2021 season and onwards they can in fact change the rules in between races. So if one team finds a loophole, the FIA has the right to fix it. This was in direct response to Mercedes and their DAS system.

What this means is that Article 10.5.2 in the 2021 regulations wasn't added today or yesterday following the massive media attention that came after the DAS discovery. It was added 4 months ago when the 2021 regulations were revealed.

That's right, DAS was banned before the fans and the other F1 teams even knew it existed. The FIA wasn't caught of guard or surprised by yesterdays events. They knew it existed all along. As soon as they found out a few months ago out they changed the regulations for 2021. It was the only thing they could do.

I don’t see how it doesn’t contravene 10.4.2 of the current rules. It’s purpose isn’t to make it easier to steer the car, it’s to make it go faster on the pointy bits so I would have struck it out on that rule - I’m not sure how it works exactly but unless it’s wholly mechanical (given the switch on the steering wheel that’s unlikely) it’d further fall foul of that rule for being electronically assisted steering.

Then there’s the argument that it’s a drivers aid (which killed our brake bias system).

Only hope for those of us who are a fan of F1 is that threat of protest sees them withdraw the system. I want to say that’s why the mass damper was pulled quite hastily in mid-2016 after it had been banned from the next season.

As I understand it the system isn't any kind of steering aid.

All it does is adjust the angle of the wheels, reducing 'toe-in' to prevent tyre wear on the straights. Speed increases will be negligible but tyre wear noticeably less. If left engaged during cornering it would actually hinder control.

As such it could be argued it is more of a suspension issue giving that no adjustments to that area can be made after the car first leaves the pits for qualifying
