This Years & Years song actually dates from 2014 and is a Blu Cantrell cover - it's a TikTok song now for whatever reason - how random.

 

The DripReport song is also unsurprisingly TikTok boosted. Looking him up and turns out he may be Indian (he also makes 'Indian' versions of pop songs but I can't find definitive proof of his nationality) so he could potentially be the second Indian rapper to get a hit single in the space of a year following Sidhu Moose Wala, who'd have guessed?

 

TikTok also responsible for potentially giving Chris Brown another hit though with 'The Take' now outpeaking where it got to from the album bomb. :drama:

I think it's not much different to YouTube virality, just that it's on a different platform that's more conducive to it (since TikTok usually just short videos playing off their chosen audio, but many people use YouTube for long-form content). It was possible to be the same years back of course ("Harlem Shake"'s virality was pretty much singlehandedly started by Filthy Frank aka Joji). In theory it's a lot of one person thinking 'oh this would be a laugh' and having their audience reciprocate with further interpretations, but I've often suspected there's a lot of astroturfing from record labels. Stuff like 'the In My Feelings Challenge' sounds so forced and awkward that I'll never not believe Drake's label just paid an influencer to spread it, and the speed at which "ROXANNE" was released, went viral and ended up on key Spotify playlists is super suspect. Labels will never not be in control of things really.

Has ‘Pretty Girl’ by Maggie Lindemann returned at all? I don’t even use TikTok and I keep seeing that Stairs Challenge from TikTok everywhere.

It was last seen at #176 on March 8, although that was because it was added to Hot Hits for IWD.

It's currently #360 on Apple Music, so it's probably a fair way off the Spotify top 200 too.

Big boost for 'Roses' today, now only 31k behind The Weeknd. I guess it is possible that the original version combined with it may make up most of that gap although of course no way to tell as it has never made the top 200 in its own right - could be an outside chance it actually hits #1 this week considering how close it is in the mids (near guaranteed next week when The Weeknd hits ACR unless there is some big new release I'm forgetting / not aware of).

 

'Blueberry Faygo' and 'Supalonely' continuing to climb at #14 and #20 respectively, also a big rise back to #40 for Octavian (not heard this song yet but I'd be happy to see him finally get a top 40 hit).

The original version of Roses isn't in the Apple top 1500, so I don't think it would make much of a difference. If it's only a small gap it may though.

Indeed, but the sales thread the other week showed that the original version is still doing roughly 4% of the song's total units per week, it looks like a negligible amount of that is coming from Apple so maybe it's doing better on Spotify. Still probably not quite doing 31k per day but maybe around half of that? Complete guess really lol ~

actually the original Roses is charting on Amazon of all places, so the remix is at #3 and the original is at #83, pretty high too

so don't think it's a stretch that the original is contributing some streams on Spotify too

Ah well that would make sense, it had to be getting those streams from somewhere!
