I'm aware he had viral songs / videos before but they are absolutely not comparable to this one, no one ever accused them at the time of being cynical ploys for virality.

Even if they had, the fact he's still as big a name as ever is surely some good evidence that those previous viral hits can't have damaged his reputation that much... :P

Toosie Slide is pure self-parody. Something tells me it's not going to number one for several months, even in a lockdown.

Has debuted at #1 on the Hot 100  12 year olds assemble

(matching Mariah Carey as the only artists to have 3 songs debut at #1)

I really like this song  I don't even care that people think hes purposely trying to get a song viral on Tik Tok, it's worked if he is trying that. But he's always been known to have very quotable/singable lyrics to help popularize his songs so him moving into making dances for people to copy rather than lyrics isn't a big stretch

great to see Drake get another US number one to his name! not that it was in much doubt.
This one actually was a little in doubt, the early predictions had him only very slightly ahead.
Getting into Toosie Slide now and enjoying it for what it is. Obviously nowhere near up there with his greats but it's fun ~ Hoping it's an isolated case for this era though and he goes back to what he does best for the next single/rest of the era.
I thought the track was pretty boring and him playing it safe. He's probably just trying to heat-up ahead of a true summer hit or full album.
  • 2 weeks later...

There was a Reddit post that had links to some tweets indicating it is out tonight, as well as a tracklist that was apparently found via Shazam - the post was removed now though oops ~ but yeah, looked pretty legit.

Title is supposedly 'Dark Lane Demo Tapes' btw!

Come on champagnepapi

Save the dire album charts sales and drop this mixtape / album now!!!!

(Plus tactically hoping he drops it well before Gaga so a Dangerous Woman type situation doesn’t occur in the US (or here!).

Now confirmed on Instagram that 'Dark Lane Demo Tapes' is out tonight (presumably 5am UK time) and he has also confirmed another full album coming this summer. BuzzJack rejoices! :cheer:

edit: beaten to it x

well I'm glad this isn't the proper album, about half of it is filler.

the top takeaways other than Toosie Slide for me are Desires, Landed, D4L and Demons

Pain 1993 would probably be one if it didn't have Carti on it too, his voice is so whiny, even moreso than Young Thug, who doesn't detract much from D4L.

I've noticed a trend in Drake releases where I find the full studio albums ok (NWTS, Views, Scorpion) but love the mixtapes (IYRTITL & More Life) so I should love this  But I think it's more in line with the albums really. There is some real filler on here, especially the Chris Brown collab. What is the point of that song? Chris Brown only seems to do background vocals and the song is so dull.

There are some great moments on the album though. My highlights being Chicago Freestyle, Demons & Time Flies.

Drake to potentially have 5 songs in the top 40 next week if Sicko Mode gets reset and D4L gets credited to Future like it is on Spotify/Apple Music :o

Even if Future is the lead on 'D4L', it'll still count to Drake's total as it's on his album, I think?
Gave this a (fairly broken and distracted) listen. Quite unremarkable - there isn't much I remember from it but that may be because I wasn't entirely focused. I will return to it a few times though and see if it creeps on me. The songs that stood out the most were 'Demons' and 'War'!

First day Spotify positions

1. Toosie Slide

3. Pain 1993 (with Playboi Carti)

5. Chicago Freestyle (feat. Giveon)

6. Not You Too (feat. Chris Brown)

7. Deep Pockets

10. When To Say When

11. Desires (with Future)

14. Time Flies

15. Demons (feat. Fivio Foreign & Sosa Geek)

16. D4L (Future, Drake & Young Thug)

19. Landed

21. War

25. Losses

29. From Florida With Love

This went about how I was expecting. I expect the Chris Brown song will overtake Chicago Freestyle but I really hope not. I'm surprised by how low the Future collabs are.
