Well since this finished at 2002, this was 2003

I've not seen or heard this since then and I didn't realise it finished 3rd. For some reason I thought it underperformed. The vocals on this were really not it either lmao.

and this was a very bollywood esque winner.

The 00's was a sea-change in quality for Eurovision, so many fabulous entries and winners while the UK still treated it as a joke. Best of all was Fairytale, Alexander Rybak.

Winner in 2004

Singing wasn't strong but loving the music to it, not that I recalled it much after I finished watching then.

Rich just posted in his thread but it's here too also. Fab winner from 2005.

and this from Moldova who finished 6th reminds me of a hippy RHCP performance  catchy and bonkers

and of course Javine represented us and unfortunately came 22nd.

My Number One

One of my favourite winners ever. While it does sound like it's from 2005, it still sounds amazing now and I'd probably still love it if it was released now. I love all the last 3 winners actually, an amazing run of iconic female winners.

2006 saw Finnish rockers Lordi win Eurovision :cheeseblock: (I actually saw them in Brighton back in 2015 too *.)

Daz pumping out his high school entry 'Teenage Life' which was one of the last times our entry went top 10 in the UK Charts along with Scooch and Sam!

Any other worthy highlights from this year?

Lordi is the best winner ever but 2005 also had two of the best ever to go up on stage:

fantastic Norwegian glam rockers who somehow also had a minor international hit with an opening theme for an HBO show last year

some excellent Hungarian riverdance madness

2006 in comparison was a bit of a weaker contest where Lordi just stormed the competition, but the BBB (Big Balkan Ballad) that year that got Bosnia their best result, ('Lejla') was also very worthy.

The cringe :cheeseblock: Especially his entrance dance.

The best winner ever is Loreen, but Fairytale and Wild Dance and Serhab Everyway That I Can are up there too.

My personal winners :

2000 : Jane Bogaert - La Vita Cos'e (Switzerland)

2001 : Michelle - Wer Liebe Lebt (Germany)

2002 : Jessica Garlick - Come Back (United Kingdom)

2003 : Esther Hart - One More Night (Netherlands)

2004 : Julia Savicheva - Believe Me (Russia)

2005 : Lise Darly - Tout De Moi (Monaco)

16 years ago Serbia won Eurovision with this.

Whilst we sent Scooch  (an unashamedly cheesy pop Euro tune though and should have got us top 15 atthe very least)

Shout out to this one from current Euro winning nation Ukraine too which got loads of hype coming out of the contest and made #28 in the UK Chart

Any memories or other personal standouts from this contest?

2007 is forever iconic with just Marija and Verka alone
This:

 how awkward. I hazard to guess that Justin Hawkins would react in that way after losing out to Scooch as well haha.

For some reason they decided to go with boring Andy for us in 2008, no surprise it did dreadfully oops.

The winner was Dima Bilan's 'Believe' representing Russia which I do remember tbh and wasn't too bad.

2009 Winner

This was my personal winner this year although a deserving runner up still!

Our entry becoming our best in years.. that is until 2022 of course. The fact that Jade nailed it live probably helped a lot but was fab to see us return to the top 5 after 7 years by this point!
