April 17, 20205 yr The musical number in the final episode had me in stitches. At the time I watched I thought I was high or extremely drunk I was thinking what that’s just happened out of nowhere but it genuinely did. I really liked this though aside from the dog dying :( it was really funny in parts and all the actors were spot on. Charles and Diana were great at playing middle class pompous buffoons, the brother was great in his part. Charlie Sheen as Chris Tarrant too. Something what was much better when you actually watched it to how it sounded on paper. I’m now off to watch the actual episode of his infamous stint on the show now
April 17, 20205 yr I liked that it made you challenge your perceptions about the case which is that they were obvs guilty. I mean I'd still probably say they are but the defence did a good case.
April 17, 20205 yr i loved this! helen mccrory killed it in the final episode. the whole cast were great though, it felt authentic. one thing that really got to me though was that helen was so convincing with her line of questioning + influencing that it seemed rather odd they didn't show much of the prosecution. watching it through our eyes, it seems odd that the jury reached a guilty verdict when she raised so many compelling arguments.
April 17, 20205 yr My first exposure to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was in 2008 when I came across the online game of the American version, with Meredith Viera as host. Even as a young boy, I noticed some glitches in which the game would skip questions occasionally. I developed a connection to the gameshow as it reminded me of that part in 50/50 where the contestants play a game called The Pulse in which they are asked similar general knowledge questions. I remember seeing a part of a documentary on YouTube called "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Major Fraud". I was 10 at the time and was probably more focused on the parts where the questions popped up. About a decade later, and I hear of this miniseries on ITV focusing on that Millionaire controversy. I was interested in it so I checked it out. I really liked this! It gives us a look into the Ingrams and shows us that despite the controversy they get into, they are just as human as us. Therefore, I feel very sorry for them when they have to go through trouble in the last episode. I would say that the parts with the questions were filler that dragged, but they do play a somewhat vital role in the miniseries, mainly the Craig David question. The courtroom scenes in the last episode provided a lot of good tension as to whether the two would be declared innocent and guilty.
April 17, 20205 yr I really enjoyed this, I do vaguely recall this scandal at the time as we did love the show but I didn't know the full ins and outs of it. The casting was absolutely perfect, Michael Sheen WAS Chris Tarrant and Sian Clifford was really good as Diana as well (I recently finished Fleabag so she's already caught my interest) and there was some suitably high drama and I certainly found myself feeling for them a bit as apparently a lot of that abuse did actually happen, even though I still think they were undeniably guilty. My only issue was that the last part of the episode seemed to be pointing towards us reconsidering after the defence lawyer's speech, yet earlier episodes made it pretty darn obvious that they were cheating in some way, that it just didn't quite fit and felt a bit contradictory. Still very good overall though, I particularly enjoyed the devoted quiz show cults!
April 20, 20205 yr Really enjoyed this - so much fun and I love that it showed you all the behind the scenes stuff at ITV and Millionaire. I thought it might have only focused on Charles Ingram. So good seeing the inner workings of the production. I had no idea that it was being infiltrated by middle class quizzers and they were appearing multiple times or that his wife and brother in law had already appeared!! I mean the actual court scenes were a mess and too busy being influenced by American TV but you can’t deny the writing behind the defence barrister’s speech and Helen’s incredible performance. All of the performances were amazing - Michael Sheen was phenomenal, you couldn’t tell it was him. I’m crying out for more dramatisations of TV moments

April 27, 20205 yr Watching this now and it's great! Did this never get shown? Love Sheen he's brillant - got chris tarrant down to a tee! If by “this” you mean the episode in question, it was eventually shown after the trial.
