Posted April 17, 20205 yr xAxNaLAR2to One year ago today, Madonna released 'Medellín' as the lead single from Madame X. Featuring Colombian singer Maluma, the song is a sultry Latin-pop midtempo that lyrically evokes the tropical escapism of 'La Isla Bonita'. Despite only minor success on the official charts, 'Medellín' was a hit with Latin radio and extended Madonna's record of most number ones on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. What are your thoughts on the song and video one year on?
April 17, 20205 yr My fav song on the album. It just feels me with joy. Wait to you see how this was done on tour , it was a def highlight. The video is awesome and should be considered one of her best. Maluma is so sexy !!! I do feel the song takes awhile to get going for a lead single , but I am a huge fan of it .
April 17, 20205 yr Medellin is a weak lead single. I remember first time I heard it and thought ‘what the f**k is this!
April 17, 20205 yr The video is still an experience. I value this song because it introduced me to the DELIGHT that is Maluma  The song is still a jam, but I can't say I return to it much now. When I do, however, it's a great listen. I don't think it should've opened this era though - there are much more representive songs for the album than this.

Maluma    I thank Shakira for introducing me to him! But he’s great on this track. I like the video. The song itself I don’t revisit that much I don’t think it’s a major highlight of the Madame X album. But strategically I can see why they released this as the albums lead as having a featured artist like Maluma would’ve at least got some streams for the track. It’s a fun moment in her discography though and there’s not many people who’d pull off a lead single what’s partly sung in another language as well but she did that!
April 19, 20205 yr I absolutely loved Medellin; for me the best song on the album and the strongest lead single since 'Hung Up'...... A year on I still love this track. Edited April 19, 20205 yr by DANTEFUEGO
April 19, 20205 yr I like it a lot more than I did on the first listen, but if I'm totally honest I never go back to this anymore. 'Crave', 'God Control' and 'I Don't Search I Find' are still on pretty regular rotation though.
April 19, 20205 yr I absolutely adore this a year on  It was a grower for sure but when it hits, it hits and Madonna suits the latin sound so much! And Maluma doesn't feel like a tacked on feature but really adds the sexiness to the song (and certainly the video x)
April 19, 20205 yr Author I still remember the first time hearing this and it being not what I was expected at all. I didn't know how much I liked it but I knew that it had been a while since I heard something unpredictable from Madonna. It soon became a defining hit for my summer '19 though - the production is lush and the hooks are such fun! I don't return to it as much as I should but it still sounds so fresh when I do. The video is up there with one of my favourites! Little did I know that she was set to continue absolutely smashing it with the visuals.

April 19, 20205 yr 'Crave', 'God Control' and 'I Don't Search I Find' are still on pretty regular rotation though. These are my 3 favourites from the album - in that order as it happens :D
April 19, 20205 yr Out of curiosity, what would you have chosen as lead? I would have gone for God Control - all out controversy, get the world talking about M again. She is no longer needing to chase radio plays etc, so why play it safe. Then forget the 100 promo tracks, and just have I Don't Search I Find and Medellín as the only pre-album songs to be released. The former as the 2nd single and the latter as a promo single (maybe elevated to 3rd single eventually). I still would've given I Rise a chance to be in the spotlight - while it isn't the biggest of songs, it's an anthem and the sort of thing/message that Madonna is all about. Crave is my favourite song from the era, but I don't think it works as a single - it's too subtle and restrained.
April 19, 20205 yr Yessss Haus! Your album campaign is much better than the one we got! She needs to hire me as her manager
