Just came across this and Emma mentions at the Brits 1997 in February that they had already started recording their second album, and have a 'few different tunes'

from 9:02 in the video below here.

So they had started to work on the album earlier than what has been assumed. The movie filming didn't start till like May, so maybe the 'full album recorded during the movie' might be a bit exhagrated lol

  • Definitely was hindered by the lack of b-side, but to be honest if they had done the original date, they would have faired better and even go #1... But yes it was the first single to not have a bside

  • Looks like Spice Up Your Life is going to be included in the main Soundtrack of Freaker Friday movie

  • Stop was released as a single 27 years ago - 9th March 1998!

But yes it was the first single to not have a bside, which then became the norm for them as all subsequent singles (bar Goodbye!) lacked one as well. Their insistance on live tracks was cute as they wanted to prove they could sing and were a live act. But they should have just done a live album as planned and include more b-sided anyway.

It was so strange that Stop didn't go to #1 as it was everywhere, the choreography is iconic and the song is one of the better known from the 90s!... The press really lapped it up as well that this was confirmation that they were over...

A mistep though that rightly was then proven to be bullshit with the success of Viva Forever, Goodbye and Holler all going in at #1!

I do think a bigger crime is Holler not managing yet to get to Platinum... now THAT is a serious injustice!

I didnt know a live album was planned back then, huge pitty it didnt go ahead as it would have done well for them and likely to have given them another number 1 album. I still think she should have released a live album after the last tour, another missed opportunity.

It was such a idiotic decision to not release that live album and Never Give Up on The Good Times...... They would have been on a new high!

Imagine having a brand new live album of the Spice World Stadium tour at Wembley for Christmas 1998! It would have sold so well...

I agree, an easy sell to have that out with Never give up on the good times your video promoting it and then goodbye for the Xmas single.

BBC4 just broadcasted this classic performance and made me feel all the feels again...

Probably one of the most bittersweet moments in Pop history. The last performance of them (at the time) of Viva Forever, one of the best and most beautiful songs ever writen. You can tell they were exhausted here, touring and promoting all the time, non-stop, had really taken a toll. Geri seems completely out of it, like she is going to a funeral.

Still, what a classic, what a song! What a video. It's just iconic.

I just re-watched a few European shows of the 1998 Spiceworld tour...

Walk of Life is another underrated bop! Reggae spice!

The live band made Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life so much better.

It still remains my favourite version of Viva Forever.

And why so cheeky with the change of lyrics in the bridge of Move Over?!

Yeah the live arrangements from Istanbul to the Return tours were incredible and brought the songs to live in a great way. I find the live arrangements really brought up Spice Up Your Life in a way that the song on the CD then always felt a bit flat in comparison for instance.

TBH I find teh European leg of the tour quite weird in terms of set list... The inclusion of Walk of Life was too random, same with the covers.... of course, the Mels rocked theirs but Emma's felt really pointless.

No Love Thing? That felt like too much of an omission... No Something Kinda Funny?...

At least they gave us a great performance of Denying, one of their best songs to this day!
