Oh don't get me wrong, I don't think there was anything wrong with #2 at all the song did really well, it was just an easy #1 if they had released a proper 2 cd with alternative tracklisting / covers on them, they were a bit too cocky expecting it to be #1 against Boyzone without everything going at it.

In fact only Mel B achieved a #1 with her first release, but there was no sense of failure from Emma or Melanie C getting #2 and #3 with their respective releases only for Geri and Victoria for some reason. I do think a big part of this came from them two themselves though and their own desperations to get #1.

Time is so fast.  "Schizophonic" was the first album, which I bought.

There are not any albums, which I heard more times from start to finish than "Schizophonic" and "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster".

3 number ones and 1 number two. Nobody has that.

Schizophonic and Spiceworld will always be my favourite albums of the nineties and of all time.

I remember getting the album in June 1999. Always reminds of that summer. Mi Chico Latino was always my favourite and of course Look At Me. Although we got no group music from them even if all five were still together it was still an exciting year.

Same for me, it takes me back to that summer, and the end of Year 6/primary school. My mum bought it for me, surprised me with it one day after school. It was with the "red" cover showing. I remember bringing the CD into school and proudly showing it off to my friends

I wish it would be pressed on vinyl. :(

I bought the album after seeing her at Party In The Park!

Firstly I bought a piracy version and only some months after got a legal album on a cassette.

Still have first two albums only on a cassettes (and "Passion" on CD).

25th anniversary and no acknowledgment from Geri at all? Unless I missed it? Shame it didn’t get a special rerelease

It has some good songs, it is creative, I enjoyed it as a child. As an adult her voice is just hard to listen to solo for a whole album as it is so thin lacks any depth.

I think the one thing her voice does have is depth. Maybe not power but certainly depth.

The way she puts character into her vocals to change the feel of the song should certainly be considered depth. While so many singers just sing a whole song in the same monotone way Geri goes from soft to dramatic so effortlessly and it serves the song so well. She does it particularly well in Sometime.

If you mean she goes in and out of tune then yes.

While I do agree with Schizo about 'depth' being different to tone or preference of voice and that Geri does have quite a warm tone with depth to her voice more so than Victoria and Mel B do (even if they have the superior voices)... your reply made me LOL

Depth to me non of the Spice Girls have, which is why they are so much better as a band. They can all sing to a degree but non have depth or are versatile. They cant go from head voice to chest voice, or falsetto, virbratto or much up and down octaves. Those are the sorts of things that add depth and texture to songs.

What you mean I think is they can add personality to songs.

I would associate depth of singing as adding personality to a song.

The above I would say is technical singing and plenty of artists who can sing like that don't have the 'depth' to their songs, Mariah Carey being one, I've never felt it in her music it's just technical, Christina Aguilera funnily enough only achieves it when she sing sings in low restrained vocals as apposed to the showing off warbling too.

Not sure if the Spicephonic YouTube Channel has already been discussed in the forum yet?

It’s serving us an AI-generated version of Schizophonic (and it’s b sides) as sung by all 5 girls (as though Geri never left). Seems as though tracks are still being added fairly regularly.

Recommend a listen!
