September 28, 20204 yr Great idea for a thread, here's some of my choices... Girls Aloud - Girl Overboard/Control of The Knife (Tangled Up) 3thfNYlfmr4 YP3CZATerZ8 Both of these are highlights on 'Tangled Up' & either one could have bridged the gap between 'Can't Speak French' & 'The Promise'. A double a-side possibly, especially as the latter (COTK) shows a different side to the album with its ska & reggae style. Both would have been great additions to their discography. Madonna - She's Not Me (Hard Candy) 2UOtBD19-fM This should have been a single, maybe 3rd following 'GI2M' as there was bit of a gap after that, then have 'MA' 4th & close the era. Gabrielle - Picking Up The Pieces (Play To Win) CX_1zIcuc2I Criminally tucked away towards the end of the album & WHY this was ignored in favour of the boring first 2 singles "Stay The Same" & "Ten Years Time". This should have been the lead single as it feels like a great successor to her 'Rise' album & could have continued the success she built up with that said album. Gabrielle - Letting Go (Play to Win (hidden track) HQFyEBk_RDg Why was this only a hidden track, considering the boring downbeat nature of the rest of the album. This deserved to be a single alongside 'Picking Up The Pieces'. This era & the bland first 2 singles really killed her momentum. Atomic Kitten - The Moment You Leave Me (Feels So Good) VbABQ7GXuEI A really nice up-beat, bright song that has some great vocal harmonies. This could have made for a better 4th single than 'Love Doesn't Have To Hurt', far more interesting & continued their more mature sound. Atomic Kitten - Softer The Touch (Feels So Good) XFx5v7flpT4 Another up-tempo gem from their brilliant 2nd album that was packed with so many potential hits. This really should have made it as a single, as it surely would have given them another huge hit. Travis - Follow The Light (The Invisible Band) ZLKYfJNaxrk This starts brightly with some a catchy guitar section, soon followed by a thumping bass drum and bass. Perhaps this should have been the 2nd single following 'Sing' instead of 'Side'. Travis - Last Train (The Invisible Band) 376i1a-LMdo Opens with strumming guitars and tinkling bells. This is soon followed by some wonderfully slinky bass and jazz-ish gentle drums. Could have made it as a 4th single. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Another Day/I Won't Dance With You (Shoot From The Hip) CIO2y2z6CtUo25ly3ge8LE Both of these could have easily worked as singles.
October 1, 20204 yr A few more.... Janet Jackson - Come On Get Up/Trust A Try (All For You) uEQBoLP2AXs qhR7Jb7K07g "Come On Get Up" - very catchy could have made for a great 4th single, surely another smash hit. "Trust A Try" - The fast pop/rock track, taking a sound that’s really strong and dramatic. Janet’s vocals are great here, can see why this was a fan fave & again could have done well if released. Michael Jackson - Break of Dawn (Invincible) nI0ocFuea_s his slower song gives Michael plenty of opportunity to show off his warmer, softer, vocals – and he does this perfectly. This should have been the 3rd single. Appleton - All Grown Up (Everything's Eventual) 2cLggxNJzj4 I think it should probably have been the third single instead of Everything Eventually., then have 'Supernaturally' as the 4th single. Texas - Where Did You Sleep (Careful What You Wish For) t1Ukfa00it4 This track has a great pace and some real life to it, and it’s pretty catchy. This should have been the lead single instead of the very MEH! 'Carnival Girl'. Texas - Under Your Skin (Careful What You Wish For) lz8tO-GJD94 This feels like classic Texas again, and I could imagine this one having potential as a single. This & 'WDYS' could have kicked off this era with such style & helped the album become more successful.
October 1, 20204 yr Instead of 'Wake Me Up': (also 'Watch Me Go' in between 'See The Day' and 'Whole Lotta History' would've been fab) Rachel Stevens' second album single releases were all messed up. Should have had 'So Good' as a lead single, followed by the wonderful: 'I Said Never Again' as 3rd single and 'Negotiate With Love' to close the era. -_- Nooo Wake Me Up definitely deserved a release!! Watch Me Go in between STD and WLH wouldn't have worked, I think, as we got Biology in November, STD in December and WLH in March. WMG would have been a good single, as would Models have been (especially when it was the title track of their docu show around this time). STD was just the worst single idea. Definitely agree about Rachel! The fact NGATG was never released is mind-blowing.
October 1, 20204 yr For Rachel Steven's 'Come And Get It' album, my singles run would have been: Funny How This would be one of my choices for the lead single instead of 'NWL' (which feels very weak in contrast with the other singles). It’s a great bouncy pop song, and very reminiscent of 80s disco. Vocally and musically it flows perfectly. Not many people mention this little gem, but honestly think this could have worked far better & may have given her another top 5 hit. So Good A well & truly epic pop track which again could have worked as the lead single, It’s strong musically, and lyrically and vocally it is defiant. If released after 'FH', I reckon this could have generated more hype & sales coming off the back of a far better/stronger lead. Nothing Good About This Goodbye I'd bump 'ISNA' down to 4th & have this wonderful gem 3rd & would have performed better than said track. The pulsating synth line & a catchy chorus, such a shame this was shelved as this could have turned things around for her. I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) This could have worked better in the early months of 2006 as the album's 4th single, coming off the back of 3 brilliant tracks, this has an almost glam rock feel to it with a dance tinge to it which shows off something different to what's come before it & may have been successful enough to spawn another single maybe. Negotiate With Love or Crazy Boys If things had turned out differently & the era was more successful, then maybe have 1 more single to close of this campaign with either of these 2 tracks. 'NWL', although I said its weaker than the previous singles, its still a pretty nice chilled out number that totally didn't work as the lead, but as a possible much later single, then okay maybe. Then 'CB' which is another solid standout that continues with the similar sound to 'ISNA' without completely sounding the same.
