16. AJ Tracey & Not3s - Butterflies

2018, #19

Correct (9): Infludexton*, DalekTurret32, dan.G*, girlsaloudjunkie, Scene, coi, StoneDragon, Jordan Lee, Dan17F1

Other Answers:

Enigma (paulgilb)

Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do (vibe)

Juice WRLD - Robbery (Dobbo)

Ariana Grande (Fisher, Rush)

DJ Mustard (Jade)

WSTRN - In2 (Beverly)

Fifth Harmony - Work From Home (mdh)

If you listened closely, you would have been able to hear the "this sound like Nyge" tag at the start of the song which would have gave you the producer. This was AJ's first song to chart in the top 40 after steadily growing his following. I wasn't keen on what I had heard from him before (Quarterback, Thiago Silva) but this one just hit me on first listen. The perfect song to relax to in the summer. I know Ladbroke Grove is what he's know for now but this is still his best for me.

Not to spoil what the next song is but I'm not sure if mdh's guess was meant for that. If it was and he tells me I'll change it.

Alesha Dixon (West)

Fifth Harmony's first song to chart in the UK after their performance on the X Factor results. I kinda instantly fell in love with them and their next 7 singles (including this one) all made #1 in my personal chart. I don't really go back to this one that often but they all look so different in the video, Camila looks 12  Impressive that 15 people got this seeming that it was never a big hit over here.

~

Note: I will have to stop now for an hour or so but I'll be straight back to finish this off then. Thank you to everyone commenting along so far. :D

What’s It Gonna Be was one of my actual faves back in the day when I went through my chav phase.

Can’t believe I didn’t put anything for it lol.

#13 is one I always get confused. For some reason when I hear songs by Panic I think it’s Fall Out Boy and vice versa idk why.

Also BO$$ is horrific.

5H really should’ve had Sledgehammer pushed in the UK it would’ve done a lot better than that.

BO$$ is kinda like a cheap Beyoncé knock off like a worse version of Run The World Girls. I get the feeling that’s what inspired the song tbh. But yeah it probably would’ve done better had they released it later in their career.

We're straight back with the 2nd most popular song in the quiz. I only started to get into this last year. The song just sounds so upbeat, one of those that instantly puts you in a good mood. The end of the song where he threatens to "kick in the ass" of Courtney Love & Marilyn Manson was added to see if the press would focus on those cheap celebrity bashing lyrics or the more important and highly political issues raised in the song (health insurance, the FDA). Manson claimed he wasn't offended that they said they would kick his ass, he was instead insulted they mentioned him in the same sentence as Courtney Love. Ouch.

19. Foo Fighters - The Pretender

Other Answers:

Red Hot Chili Peppers (vibe)

30 Seconds To Mars (Jade)

I'm almost certain I can hear Simon Neil's vocals over this in my head so I'll guess Biffy Clyro in hopes of a half point, cba to look through their songs to find out I'm probably wrong anyway xx (Breraldine)

Muse - Knights Of Cydonia (Dan17F1)

This was one that I used to play full-blast on my Ipod Nano to the point it would give me earache. Foo Fighters are obviously back in the limelight at the moment due to the Live Lounge song but this one remains their best for me. I've always enjoyed Dave Grohl's voice and it certainly shines here. The video gives me American Idiot vibes.

The other guesses are all pretty close. I used to get Foo Fighters & Red Hot Chili Peppers mixed up frequently when I was younger and this does sound 30 Seconds To Mars like.

I'm actually kicking myself at #14 - of course it was Goldie Looking Chain!! I knew I knew it! I don't think it's their best song though - that's between 'Your Missus Is A Nutter' and 'Your Mother's Got A Penis', both classics

20. Kanye West & Lil Pump - I Love It

Cher Lloyd (Fisher)

I feel like this is something from the last few years that I hated but I don’t know which one. (Beverly)

will.i.am - T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) (feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez) (Breraldine)

Backstreet Ho (Jordan Lee)

Kanye has had a long and successful career but it looks like's now struggling to get a hit outside ones that drop like a stone after album release week and if this is Kanye's last ever proper hit then what a way to go out  Premiered at the 2018 PornHub awards(!), this song is know for one thing and that's the video featuring Kanye & Pump dressed in ridiculous outfits resembling the videogame Roblox following Adele Givens calling her a "f***n ho". This song may be deemed awful but any conceivable metric but it's such a guilty pleasure for me. All it takes is one listen and its stuck in head for weeks to come. Kanye's face in the video after he calls her a bitch always makes me laugh.

I feel like I should give Pete a point for his incredibly accurate description of the song.

I googled the song Jordan Lee mention and it seems to be a mix of this and Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

Loving the Goldie Lookin Chain love

I forgot to mention before but the fact that they somehow got to perform on Jimmy Kimmel's show in the US always makes me laugh.

I Love It was incredibly catchy, was stuck in my head almost all the time for a few weeks!
Oops I put the wrong number for I Love It I put 21 instead of 20

Here we have the song that missed the charts. This is taken from Gambino's concept album "Because the Internet" that tells the tale of a young, rich, unnamed boy. This song is a typical brag track written from the perspective of the boy. I know I said that GDKPRD & The Bad Touch had quotable lyrics but every line in this song is highlight. The absolute best moments are when he stops the song in the middle to clarify that Fiskers don't make noise when they start and lines such as "y'all f**kboys like Socrates", "Bring a girlfriend, man, trouble when I see her. “Err-eh-err-eh,” onomatopoeia" and "Got a glass house in the Palisades, that A-K-A White hood, white hood, o-KKK”. The “Being John Malkovich” inspired video is a treat too.

Bonus Points: Alongside the 8 people who realised it was Childish Gambino, Dan.G*, Jade & Breraldine correctly guessed this was the track that didn't chart.

it's a four chord song from the late 90's. Eternal? (DalekTurret32)

Emma Bunton (Fisher)

Seeming that I only used Blackpink the last time I did this, I decided to use all the girlbands I love in this round. This is probably my favourite track of theirs, it's sounds so timeless and fresh to this day. Una's bridge towards the end is a particular highlight. Cute little video too. I was expecting more than 13 correct answers seeming that they're such favourites on this site.

3 of the incorrect guesses are on the right lines

I'm so sorry to Childish Gambino for guessing him as Lil Toenail :deadbanana: chuffed about the bonus point though :D

'The Pretender' is an annoying miss! But glad about everything else, as much as I dislike 'I Love It' x

23. Selena Gomez ft A$AP Rocky - Good For You

2015, #23

Correct (18): Infludexton*, DalekTurret32, n4yr, dan.G*, girlsaloudjunkie, M4NGO, Dobbo, Fisher, Scene, Rush, Jade, coi, StoneDragon, MrAndrewMan, Zárate, Breraldine, Jordan Lee, Dan17F1

Selena Gomez - Lose You To Love Me (vibe)

Other Answers:

The Weeknd (Beverly)

Banks - Beggin For Thread (West)

I'm guessing this was such a popular answer because of the ridiculously long clip of the song I used. This song is the coolest, most mature and sexiest Selena has ever sounded. I love Selena's current era but I'm not sure it's ever going to be possible for her to top this in my opinion. Rocky's verse is decent too if not that memorable. I was so disappointed this was never able to go top 20 for her at least :(

Pete goes for Selena's ex-boyfriend so at least there's a link there.

'Good For You' is definitely one of her best  I appreciated the long clip as it took a while to get going before it clicked for me
I'm surprised relatively few people got 'Issues', I thought it was one of the most recognisable songs in the quiz.
