Romania and Malta are skipping the opening ceremony now as they are staying at the same hotel as Poland and Iceland.

Honestly this turquoise carpet seems so unnecessary?

This carpet event... the mixing in such a small space, the lack of masks and distancing. EBU...

Maybe Iceland, Romania and Malta were just lucky to miss it

So the icelandic delegation is confirmed to be fully vaccinated (assuming that includes the infected person) but they have to quarantine for a few days, probably until thursday which means they’ll miss the jury show and possibly live show too. Not sure what effect that may have but they said they’ll probably use their second rehearsal footage and hopefully they qualify and get to perform live on saturday!

Official statement from the EBU

Following a positive test for COVID-19 amongst the Icelandic delegation on Sunday 16 May, the whole team has been in quarantine and undergone PCR testing (on 16 and 19 May).

Today (Wednesday 19 May) a member of the Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið also tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of the delegation has again tested negative for COVID-19.

In close collaboration with the EBU and the host broadcaster, Daði og Gagnamagnið have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from performing in this year’s live Eurovision Song Contest shows, as they only want to perform together as a group.

Their song will remain in the competition and we will broadcast their rehearsal performance, recorded on the stage on 13 May.

The Icelandic delegation will remain in quarantine and be monitored by the Health Authorities.

We wish them all the best and will provide further updates in due course.

I'm so gutted for them :(

Fingers crossed for some televote sympathy indeed (although I’m never sure how compassionate the televoters are, every time I see a difficult situation that I think viewers might reward - like Surie’s stage invasion or back stories like Sjonni’s Friends, it never really happens).

It really sucks that they keep having their opportunity on the Eurovision stage snatched away from them :(

It honestly would be fitting after this messy last year for the winner to be someone who failed to participate due to a COVID infection but we'll see. It sucks they never got to show off their new costumes that they were saving for tonight.
Well Duncan Laurence has tested positive and has mild symptoms so will no longer be appearing live at the Grand Final.

Argh :( So no handing over of the trophy to the new winner either. Unless the winner is Dadi after all anyway.

So frustrating for all this to happen at the last minute, hopefully Duncan feels better quickly.

Aw. Hope Duncan doesn't get too sick!

Now I'm even more convinced Daði is the most fitting winner this year.

both previous and new winners not on stage. can you imagine lmao
Duncan should bring the trophy to Jói's (the Gagnamagnið member who was infected) hotel room since both of them have covid and they could show it on zoom after the results. Problem solved.

Wait... the obvious negative of that picture aside...

Why are they stood socially distanced apart if they're just going to shake hands anyway?!
