So I'm definitely not going to have this all finished by First Look, but I'll see how far I get and pick up the rest later.

At the end of Part 1 we have 6 people on a maximum 18 points and one on 16!

I heard Black Eyed Peas’ 2005 album Monkey Business playing while out several months ago, and was reminded how much their sound changed a few years later. This David Guetta-produced smash was everywhere at that turn of a decade – including 65 places in the chart.

Once reformed a decade after their 1996 split, it didn’t take them long to surpass Back For Good as their defining moment with this one. I thought this would be one of the more difficult questions in this quiz as the clue I gave it also applied to All I Want For Christmas Is You, and Riser and StoneDragon both went for that, but unfortunately for this quiz Mariah’s 99 weeks on the Top 100 is concentrated very much towards the upper end.

Oh no just realised I forgot to do Z

For the last 4 songs L-O, I said that 3 of them were tied on 6th place for visiting the most positions in the Top 100, while the other one holds the record!

I’ll reveal what the 4 songs are first.

L: Bastille - Pompeii

Top 100 debut 2013 | Weeks 103

2-5, 9, 12-13, 15, 19-20, 22, 24-27, 30, 32, 34, 38-39...

The breakthrough hit (unless we count Flaws) and first of 3 non-charity-ensemble #2s for Dan Smith’s band was immovable from the chart for very nearly two years.

That commentary has reminded me that 'Flaws' deserved so much more  I do like 'Pompeii' as well though of course!

Ironically 'Flaws' is a pretty much flawless song :D the whole of their debut album is amazing tbh.

This!!

M: Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

Top 100 debut 2006 | Weeks 166

The most played song of the 2000’s and by far the biggest hit of the Northern Irish / Scottish band, despite being their joint 3rd highest charting. And we’re back to a full house of voters.

N: Sia - Chandelier

Top 100 debut 2014 | Weeks 114

6, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18-22, 24-25, 27-40...

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Riser, Rush, MrAndrewMan, dan-G, StoneDragon

This list is a bit male-dominated (Kirsty MacColl and Fergie aside), but Sia has an entry all to herself. This had a crazily long run of 46 unbroken weeks the Top 40, 37 of them below #20, and just missed the first list by a single position. And it’s another full house - there really weren’t many other mega long-running #6 hits to choose from beyond these two!

Edited by jimwatts

Yup the #6 peak was pretty standout for both of those!

I agree. They are the two massive #6's that came to my mind. I think the non-top 8 song will be pretty obvious too. :kink:

Here’s what the next song isn’t:

not O: Killers - Mr Brightside

Top 100 debut 2004 | Weeks 225

10, 26, 28-29, 36, 38, 45, 47-50, 52-55, 57-60, 64-65, 67-70, 72-100

...

And here’s what it is:

O: Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

Top 100 debut 2012 | Weeks 107

12-14, 17-18, 21, 25-26, 29, 31-33, 35-36, 38-39...

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, LewisGT, coi, Rush, MrAndrewMan

Scene, Jade, Riser, dan-G – really sorry for what might have looked like a dead cert here! Despite a run of 225 weeks on the Top 100 (226 and counting if we add this week), the Killers have only covered 54 of its positions – every single one from #72 downwards and usually many times over, but with only 6 weeks in the Top 40 left it with an uphill struggle to do well here!

StoneDragon went for Let It Go, I suppose either Idina Menzel or James Bay could have fitted this one too. Well done to the rest of you for landing on the other Las Vegas band and their breakthrough hit!
