May 29, 20206 yr Next week's contender? Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK Sour Candy Instant grat from Chromatica Released: 28th May 2020 Label: Interscope Records Video fnPn6At3v28 Biography Lady Gaga Some may dismiss pop as inauthentic. But for Lady Gaga—one of popular culture’s greatest, most extravagant creations—the inauthenticity is the point. No artist has more defiantly embodied that provocation this century than the one born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (in New York in 1986). Never wedded to the same image—one minute wearing a dress made of raw meat at the MTV VMAs, the next a coat of Kermit the Frog puppets on German TV—Gaga personifies pop’s surface obsessions while simultaneously upending them. In a sense, her creative identity had crystallized by age 21, having been a child pianist, aspiring actor, and burlesque performer. Each of these facets powered her career’s most distinct parts: the celebrity fascination of her first two albums, 2008’s The Fame and 2009’s The Fame Monster; the subversive layering of 2011’s Born This Way and 2013’s ARTPOP; the sincere reverence of 2014’s Cheek to Cheek, her jazz standards album with Tony Bennett; and the rootsier songwriting of 2016’s Joanne. If 2009’s “Paparazzi” reveled in the flashes, then “Born This Way” celebrated inner light: In translating her diffuse identity into world-conquering art, Gaga has become a beacon to anyone else who’s felt like an outsider. Her loyal following—a.k.a. Little Monsters—has affirmed a deep connection to her message of self-love and self-expression, despite pop’s fickleness and her chameleonic exterior. She played out a simpler version of her path to fame in the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born: But while her character’s ascent was abetted by her lover, Gaga’s was all her own. - iTunes BLACKPINK K-pop girl group BlackPink made their breakthrough in 2016 with their hip-hop- and trap-influenced brand of energetic dance pop. The quartet, formed by YG Entertainment, combines the talents of Korean-born lead vocalist Jisoo Kim, New Zealand-raised main rapper/vocalist Jennie Kim, Australian-raised main vocalist Rose Park Chae Young, and Thai lead rapper Lalisa Manoban (aka Lisa, born Pranpriya Manoban). BlackPink debuted with their single "Square One," which featured the hits "Boombayah" and "Whistle." Produced and written with Teddy Park, Future Bounce, and Bekuh Boom, "Square One" introduced a "K-trap" style that sounded like 2NE1 blended with BTS. Both tracks climbed the charts in the United States and Korea, even breaking into the French singles chart. Months later, they released Square Two, which entered the U.S. Heatseekers chart at number 13 and the World Albums chart at number two. Square Two also became the first debut for a K-pop girl group on the Canadian charts. In the summer of 2017, the group issued the chart-topping single "As If It's Your Last," their third to top the Billboard World Digital Songs chart. Months later, they made their Japanese debut with the Blackpink EP (YGEX/Avex Entertainment), which compiled past hits in newly recorded Japanese versions. Topping the Japanese charts, BlackPink became just the third foreign artist debut to do so. Re:BlackPink arrived in early 2018, combining previously issued tracks from both Japanese and Korean releases. The Square Up EP arrived that summer, headed by the international smash single "DDU-DU DDU-DU." In addition to entering the U.K. trending chart, the song became the group's highest showing on the Billboard Hot 100 by an all-female K-pop group (following Wonder Girls' 2009 hit "Nobody"). The EP also made moves on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting all-female K-pop effort to date at number 40. Later that October, the group signed a global partnership deal with Interscope/Universal and appeared on the collaborative single "Kiss and Make Up" with English pop star Dua Lipa. The track hit the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K. Top 40. BlackPink closed out the year with the release of their Japanese debut, Blackpink in Your Area. In 2019, the quartet announced an international tour, which included stops at Coachella and Summer Sonic, and released a second EP, Kill This Love. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History Lady Gaga 2009 01 Just Dance (feat. May 29, 20206 yr Yay for Rain On Me - I was worried earlier when someone said it was a different result to the Irish Chart! Think it was the albums that was a different result. Singles wise taste won
May 29, 20206 yr Crazy how it's Gaga's first debut at #1. If only they hadn't buggered up the release of 'Born This Way'.
May 29, 20206 yr And? It’s definitely not the best song of the decade hun. We have 9 more years to find that out.
May 29, 20206 yr This is sounding so good at the top  DaBaby 'Rockstar' is still a good song and glad it had some time at #1 but I'm so glad they were able to hold the number one! It's crazy this is Gaga's first #1 debut! Guess all of her singles around 2009/10 were climbers when most songs debuted at their peak.
