Posted November 22, 200618 yr can oasis' Stop The Clocks ep chart in jan when the rules are changed? or are all records that have been exclude before this date still excluded when the new rules come into effect?
November 23, 200618 yr Call me stupid but....what are the new rules? http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21793
November 29, 200618 yr Author Yes it can, all EPs will be included but the 7" is a double single is that allowed too?
November 29, 200618 yr Author So it sold 20,000 and would have got to #4 if eligible! but the cold war kids is also a double 7". is this the new hip way to still get excluded?
November 29, 200618 yr but the cold war kids is also a double 7". is this the new hip way to still get excluded? Hmmm, im not sure about double singles. I would presume they would be included, as the OCC are keen for the charts to relect everything bought. I would thing a gatefold double 7" would be a rare thing and tiny seller tough.

November 29, 200618 yr and stickers? Well, surely the sticker rule would go as well, as its blatantly ridiculous!
November 29, 200618 yr the packaging rules for physical singles is still remaining in place after January, ie stickers, number of formats. All that is changing with physical formats is that a maxi-single will be able to have up to 4 unique tracks with a 25 minutes maximum running time. A 7" single can have a gatefold sleeve but I don't think a double pack release is eligible anyway. In fact I'm certain it isn't. Anycase, sales of the double pack 7" are probably not that big anyway.

So if a "physical single" breaches the new rules for chart eligability, can we assume that any digital sales would still count? Edited November 29, 200618 yr by Sound-Bite
November 29, 200618 yr So if a "physical single" breaches the new rules for chart eligability, can we assume that any digital sales would still count? that's one thing no-one has been able to work out. I suppose sales of the physical single should just be ignored and digital sales still count, but nothing has been said so far. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens...
November 29, 200618 yr For example, the current Snow Patrol single has Chasing Cars on the B side of the 7". Had Chasing Cars not been deleted, chart rules would have prevented the new single from being chart eligible as rules prevent a record from charting if it features a current top 40 song as a B side or bonus track on any of the formats. Daniel Powter fell foul of this rule last year, with Free Loop as it featured a version of his then current top 40 song Bad Day. Snow Patrol ensured Chasing Cars was removed from the top 40, as did Rihanna earlier this year when SOS turned up on the follow up. Now that songs will continue to chart after being physically deleted, will it just be the physical single that will be excluded or will (like Powter last year) the download also be excluded if the follow up features a current top 40 song as its B side? Presumably record labels will just not include the current chart song on the B side of the single, but who knows? Edited November 29, 200618 yr by Robbie
