Posted May 31, 20205 yr vrUGIQ2ItE8 A fearless, frank and provocative half-hour series exploring the question of sexual consent and where, in the new landscape of dating and relationships, the distinction between liberation and exploitation lies. Set in London, where gratification is only an app away, the story centers on Arabella (Coel), a carefree, self-assured Londoner with a group of great friends, a boyfriend in Italy, and a burgeoning writing career. But when her drink is spiked with a date-rape drug, she must question and rebuild every element of her life. The new show by Chewing Gum creator Michaela Coel will premiere on HBO (June 7) and BBC One (June 8). I am honestly so excited by this, Michaela is in my opinion one of the most important voices in television right now and this looks like such a relevant show for the times we're living in.
May 31, 20205 yr Oh my god! I adore Michaela Coel and Chewing Gum was such a fave of mine. Definetly watching this.
June 8, 20205 yr Author This is starting tonight! The reviews I've read so far have all been incredibly positive.
June 17, 20205 yr Episodes 1-3 have been awkward yet gripping which I guess is the aim given the plot. I was a bit weirded out at one scene however what involved a tampon...
June 17, 20205 yr Episode 4 was the hardest watch yet. It’s well acted but every episode leaves me feeling a bit like frozen if that makes sense like I just don’t know how to react as it’s so raw and like unfiltered. A lot of the time with TV shows what cover the subject matters this show does it’s more of a left to the imagination and it focuses on the aftermath but this touches on exactly what happens at that exact time unfiltered.
June 17, 20205 yr The only thing that throws me is how disjointed the episodes are, like 2, 3 & 4 had little correlation I find myself hooked and I agree the final scene of the last episode was the hardest to watch and unfortunately something that happens alot within online dating and the gay scene :(.
June 18, 20205 yr I feel like there's a possibility the effects of ep 1 and ep 4 could combine. I'm excited to see where this goes though! If we had all 12 episodes at once i'd be racing through them.
June 18, 20205 yr Author In love with this! Is anybody else watching?? I have only watched the first two episodes, hope to catch up with #3 and #4 at the end of the week. It really is a fantastic show, so raw and unfiltered, which makes it a sometimes hard show to watch but super important. Michaela really is one of the most talented people working in television right now and I really hope she will get the same treatment Phoebe Waller-Bridge had recently.
July 8, 20205 yr Author I'm trying to watch this a bit slowly as it's very intense and especially my bf can't watch more than one episode at a time, but what a show. Possibly one of the, if not the, best show I have seen in years.
July 20, 20205 yr I've just binge-watched this. It is so powerful and raw, and SO important in 2020. What did people think of the final episode? I'm not sure what to think.
July 21, 20205 yr This is just incredible probably the best British TV series I’ve seen in a while . Michaela Cole did THAT ! Edited July 21, 20205 yr by troylovesmusic
September 21, 20213 yr Fantastic to see Michaela Coel's throughly deserved win for this at the Emmys, I May Destroy You was such a thrilling and gripping watch last year. @1439918524701491202 @1439777398082445312
September 21, 20213 yr Wonderful news (especially after that laughable snub at the Golden Globes), so pleased for her. I was late to the bandwagon here and only checked this out cos of the reviews, but I'm glad I did as it's a stunning show, one of the most grounded and realistic portrayals of the effects of sexual assault I've seen and the characters were phenomenally written.
September 21, 20213 yr Oh I forgot to watch this last year, I may have to do so as season 3 of sex education isn’t going to last long
September 25, 20213 yr Finished this last night, it was really entertaining and poignant. Loved it. Glad you loved it Dandy*, it's not an easy watch but it is so rewarding. The soundtrack is also incredible. “Something About Us” by Daft Punk playing in that beach scene. *.*
December 30, 20213 yr super super late to the party, I only got HBO recently, but this is all kinds of amazing pity it looks like there is not gonna be a 2nd season, really loved the characters and wanted to see more fo them
